Clothing/Styles You Could Have Lived Without

A spinoff of two other threads. I love seeing pictures of clothes from years ago. Sometimes funny, sometimes cute. Often scary.

My list:
Leisure suits (pastel ones, esp.)
Braless look

High-heeled clogs and sneakers with heels came immediately to mind.

kat,
Those Shaker knit cotton sweaters and spandex leggings were great while I was pregnant in the 80s (twice). They couldn't be worn post-term, though, because the weight never would have come off! Shoulder pads, however, (ala Dynasty) were pretty awful in hindsight and I think they're coming baaaack!
Fortunately, I was too young for caftans since I thought they were ridiculous.

I loved my Seafarer jeans.

Elephant bells (early '70s).

And I'm going to get flamed for this, but H (who's not normally a member of the fashion police) wants to know: What's with the brown bridesmaid's dresses? It's not a good color for most people, and the last three weddinngs we have attended have featured them. IMHO, they're not going to look any better in the wedding album 30 years from now than the pastel tuxes from way back in the day look now.

Diane Vonfurstenburg (sp?) wrap dresses. You need more on top than I have.

I loved going braless though...

I am ashamed to admit that I used to have permed bangs. Just the bangs were permed. Mmm.

My future father-in-law is trying to bribe my fiance to wear his ruffled, pastel blue 70s tux for the wedding. Hey, light blue is one of the wedding colors!

Mini-skirts, hot pants, skimpy halter tops, and the wet look (boots, raincoat, etc.) (sounds like 2006, but it was really made popular in the early '70's). It looked like we were all a bunch of "girls gone wild", but that wasn't the case.

Speaking of styles of clothing reminds me how much I miss those John Romain handbags, Ladybug/Villager designer outfits for "junior" sizes, gold-filled initial pins, flowered Peter Pan collar blouses and long-sleeve solid and striped men's button-down shirts with that famous loop of thread in the back. That thread was key. Sorry for the change in the thread (no pun intended), but I just couldn't help but think about what I missed when it came to fashion in the 70's.

I don't see your point.

I once wore brightly colored leggings with contrasting tunics and keds, not to mention the side ponytail and humongus bow on my head. Ah, kindergarten.

Hairbands, especially the hard tortoise shell kind

Florescent green, pink and yellow yarn in girls' hair, especially with a Pebbles ponytail

Hush Puppies that had to be "brushed" to get the dirt off at night

Go Go Boots since my mother wouldn't let me have a pair..I don't want to ever return to the playground again in my Hush Puppies while everyone else is in cool scuffed Sinatra daughter boots

Large print Plaid Pantsuits
