Wow, I went away for a few days and you people went CRAZY!!! Ten + pages of posts!

Anyway, we're no closer to a decision than before the trip, but at least I DO feel like D is has a clearer picture of the two schools we visited than she had before. It was definitely an interesting trip.

So there are still three schools in the running, and we're down to five days and counting.

My son had 3 schools in the running with 2 days to go last year and he sorted it out. Best wishes jude_36!

I suggested to my son that he get black sheets and he did. They don't show much dirt. He picked out a beautiful coral colored comforter that made his half of the room glow and provided a great backdrop for his string of peace flags. I can hardly wait until he gets home in 21 days!

bethie: His room sounds beautiful. I love the coral and black. And the peace flags sound lovely, too.

Internet's been down or at best very very spotty allllll evening long. What, a few thunderstorms, and I can't post?! Grrrrr!!! And now, because it's after 2 AM, H is making grumpy noises, so I will have to catch up with everyone and everything in the morning. (You guys were busy tonight!)

Good night!

And in the morning, fresh English muffins (assuming they come out okay); I just mixed the dough for overnight rising, yee-haw!

Mint pesto, what to use it on/how to use it: we'll see. Right now, we're thinking with fresh chevre on fresh bread, possibly with the bread toasted.

Good night!

owlice - And I had to read your post with my sub-par oatmeal. I felt better after I convinced myself chevre does not go well with oatmeal.

jude_36 - Welcome; I was getting worried about you. Your D will get there. I thought S would never decide but he has.

kitkat82 - Thanks for the suggestions. S went to a summer program last year and he came home with less shirts, less everything. Someone else's S came home with more. I bought him cheap sheets and I won't do that again. After 6 weeks, it was gross (and he claimed he washed them). I splurged on the towels and they held up beautifully.

Off to do my Sunday duties.

mountains, chevre does not go with oatmeal, sub-par or super-par or plain or any other kind! Ook!!!!

I have English muffins rising in the kitchen. The first couple are rather interestingly shaped. I'll be having a kidney-shaped one for breakfast, perhaps. That's what I get for staggering out of bed to shape dough! I paid more attention to what I was doing as I went on.

Owlice, how are those fresh English muffins coming along? I would so love to try one.

Welcome back jude_36 - I'm sure your D will make the right decision.

Thanks for the tips about buying decent quality sheets and towels for the college kids. I've already started saving up my BB & B discount coupons..........lol.

About those BB&B coupons--please note that THEY DO NOT EXPIRE!!!!! Yes, they all have expiration dates on them, but they mean nothing. I have beein saving up for the last year or so--I feel sorry for whoever is behind me in the checkout line in a couple of months!

Jude, what did your D think about Dickinson? From your last comment, she hasn't made a decision yet. What other schools are in the running?

My heart goes out to all of you vigil-aires who are tearing your hair out STILL waiting for a decision. Five years ago we were in the same position--S finally asked DH and me to tell him which of his 2 top schools he should attend. We did, and he did--and was deliriously happy there.

It will soon be over!

BB&B and LNT coupons are also interchangeable, the stores will take both.

Good morning all. Some violin and banjo music "down from the mountain" to get our pulses running. Who needs caffeine?

Jude: Glad your trip was interesting. It's all part of the education, haha, and a little diversion for us old folks.

It's nice to be the one to be able to decide instead of the "beauty contestant" being evaluated. Tell your D to enjoy.

Unlike dg5052, we're being very careful not to sway our D. She's down to 2 schools and she is begging us to say which we like best--the most we did was make a side-by-side list of the characteristics of each school (which differ) and she's going to have to make the choice. No way will we risk being blamed for any future angst with whatever choice she makes.

Mountain - when I say t-shirts, I meant the kind with things printed on them. Sheets - my guy says he changes them at least once a semester. Therefore I wash them SEVERAL times....YUCK guys can be disgusting! Thank God they were navy blue. He changed his towels at least every week - being a swimmer he knew the importance of clean towels.

Yep start saving those coupons - they are good on one item only!

Dang I can't start thinking about that part of it - I need to get #2 son to decide!

Let's see. This trip it was me, my middle daughter (the college-bound child) and my youngest daughter. We went to Dickinson, had an excellent visit. I had an appointment with Financial Aid to try to get some information about what to expect over the course of four years, and it was very helpful. My daughter met with a professor, liked him a lot, then we went on another tour. Then we met up with a student who took us to lunch in the dining hall. Some of his friends joined us and we had a great discussion. We walked around the town a little bit. My daughter liked the school much better this time.

The next day we went to Gettysburg. My daughter was met by a student and they went off to meet a professor, then went to a class, then to lunch, while my youngest and I went to the mall. I also had a meeting with financial aid, which wasn't really very helpful. We met back up with daughter and left.

Her assessment at this point is that she thinks Dickinson is the best for her academically and athletically, but something about it just doesn't sit well with her. I don't quite get it, but I am trying really hard to stay out of this and let her decide.

There are some things about Gettysburg that *I* just don't like, but she seems to be leaning that way.

Her other choice is Kenyon, but I have a feeling they are going to lose out because they are more money, and the logistics of getting her there and back are a little daunting. But she loved the campus, the program, etc., and I think of the three, it would really be her first choice if all else were equal.

LIMOMOF2, the English muffins were okay; thanks for asking. I don't know that I'd go to the trouble to make them again, but I was glad to do it this time. (Okay, I'll probably make them one more time just to improve upon what I learned this time about making them, but after that, I'll probably be done!)

I have a half-dozen left (recipe made eight) and will pop one into the toaster oven for you. Taste is okay; yeasty, good, but nothing outrageously better than store-bought.

English muffins are baked in a skillet or frying pan on top of the stove, about 10 minutes a side (depending on size, of course). NOW I understand the need for weighting down the formed muffins during the second rising; they become enormous otherwise! (So next time, I'll weight them down; this time, I didn't.)

All -- please shop 'til you drop at BBB; thanks! (Signed, stockholder with a loss in this company at the moment.)

jude, the first time I took S to Dickinson, he didn't want to get out of the car! We drove up, he said, "Okay, I've seen it; let's go home. Now!"

!!!

He was already committed to going there for his first-ever CTY session; he was 12. Yeah, I made him get out of the car; we were going to walk around the campus some whether he liked it or not!!

Now when exH and I dropped him off at Dickinson for that summer session, the kid couldn't ditch us soon enough! No extended goodbyes, no no no. It was, "See ya!" and gone!
