| Good morning mountains. Wow! 4, worked out, you really are superwoman. Here's my schedule: Wake up with alarm at 7:45. Brush teeth. Morning ablutions. Dress in two minutes. Come down to check CC. Put in contacts, leave at 8:30. So, my window is 45 minutes. No breakfast (one pill needs an hour before anything else can be eaten -- asthma med) and no hair brushing. (My hair's some kind of freak of nature. Never needs brushing.)
Too lazy to do snow tires, but I don't live in NH
Oh don't worry. Your boy didn't want to go to that school. Maybe their strategy is to be the last so kids don't change their minds again. Or maybe it's part of their slightly above all that attitude. Who knows? |

| I think Adam will be dead last. Not because he wants to be but because of circumstances. |

| kitkat82: Slow and steady wins the game. It's not a race. I'm sorry for the extra anxiety for you, but he'll be just as ensconced in his school come Aug/Sep as anyone else.
And you give us a need excuse to keep returning to the vigil lounge.
Hang in there!
And no I really must run. |

| esobay: my son told his friends at school, came home from school chatted with me a bit about his plans for the evening, messed around on the computer for 1/2 an hour or so, during which time he joined a facebook group for the class of 2012, then he came into the living room and asked, "so, when ya gonna write that check?"
As though I was holding up the works. |

| Sorry I missed you for tea mythmom (I had to gulp mine down) - had to run D to school and then had to go back because a) she forgot her phone, and b) she wore a tank top and shorts and was too cold, so she needed jeans and a sweatshirt. Now I'm back - so good morning to you mountains (you beat me too! I normally get up at 4:30, but slept until 5:30 today - it felt great!), and good morning to you too kitkat. See, your son gives us a reason to keep meeting - he's just thinking of us..........lol. I'm sure he'll be fine, whichever school he chooses. |

| Congrats copter! And now the true excitement begins.
Aren't our kids too much? I got chastised for not telling D it was a little chilly out today. I haven't picked out her clothes for years, and I never tell her the weather unless she asks - but for some reason that was supposed to be my job this morning! I think that they expect us to read their minds. |

| Good morning, all!
LIMOMOF2, no worries! Please feel free to put coffee on, especially if it's the morning after the night before, and the night before involved mudslides!
copter, congratulations, and yes, of course you were supposed to know which college he'd chosen without being told! (Sheeeeeeeesh!!!!!!!) I'm glad you're not holding him up any more! (I'm lol; that's just funny, and oh, so so so typical!)
mountains, 4 AM is a fine time to go to bed in my book, not so good a time to get up! I'm glad there are early birds and night owls in the world, and not just because that gives the Vigil Lounge its 24-hour-a-day appeal (though that's nice, too!).
kitkat, what mythmom said. It'll all work out and he'll be somewhere in the fall!
H and I have had breakfast, and I've started a loaf of bread so we have bread for sandwiches by lunchtime. I filled out some CTY forms before the coffee was ready, and have to finish these up to get into today's mail. The (wildly expen$ive) bill's been paid. S has a long time this year between the end of school and his first CTY session. I suggested he use some of that three weeks to knock out some volunteer hours. He was amenable, but I'm certain he's not taken any steps to do this.
His sense of time is tending toward his dad's -- no realization that time hasn't stopped, that it keeps moving and what is in the future approaches with each day, whether he's paying attention to it or not. This can give the appearance of procrastinating, but I think it's something different, an unawareness or inability to register time the way others do.
Me? I'm very well aware of time passing, and should I ever need a reminder, all I have to do is stand next to the tall child to see how much he's grown overnight! He came downstairs yesterday morning and told me he needs a new bed, that he doesn't fit in his. Well, yeah, and you haven't for a while, kiddo, which is why you sleep diagonally on it; stop growing, and that'll make it easier to keep a bed you'll fit in! (I doubt he'll take my oh so sage advice.) |

| Good morning! To all you early risers, can you be my virtual alarm clock?
Or do a virtual workout for me?
I used to be a nightowl but now I'm only good between 9AM-9PM: old age at work!
On the other hand, we had a nice, long talk with S yesterday (actually 2 talks as he cannot stand to sit still for these discussions for very long) about his pros and cons. both his options, though neither are his top choices, are valid for him and we just want to be sure he is choosing what he wants, so that he can start to get excited about that in spite of his disappointments with the results he got.
He is definitely on the verge of making his final decision, by which I mean he is almost ready to write the deposit check...by Monday I am sure I will have the paperwork in hand to take to the P.O. Plus, he sees his friends making their decisions and I know that is spurring him on.
Have a lot of errands to run this morning, but good luck to everyone today and keep the positive vibes humming...we are all proud of our kids for the monumental efforts they've put in these past years. From what I've read here they are each and every one stellar individuals and the colleges they choose will be the lucky ones. |

| Copter .... I haven't even been told how much the check must be written for... but I have been told not to "paw through my college stuff"!! OK, use your own checkbook then is getting to be my thought.
Oh well, we have -days- yet.
Congrats on stopping the hold up! LOL |

| Back from errands and snow tires still on. Everyone had the same plans as I did and tire place was packed - good thing I called before I got there. I made a quick detour to the cell phone carrier. I need to renew contract and get new phones; didn't succeed either since S' frugality was in full force this morning. He wants to keep old phone that needs now to be charged every 6 hours. I didn't have the energy to argue this morning so I'll deal with it later.
cottonwood513 - Good luck. Now why don't software companies come up with something similar to Turbo Tax that can do CSS and FAFSA? I think there is a tax software that you can download the tax return results to FAFSA, but I don't know which one.
mythmom - Definitely not superwoman. I crash early so I get up early. I always find early mornings the best part of the day since nothing yet has gone wrong! |

| Thanks. Now I've had enough coffee, I'm hungry. Good thing it's too chilly for yard work or I could procrastinate another day.
To all of you waiting for your offspring unit's final decision, best wishes. I was surprised by the amount of remorse I felt for the schools he turned down last spring. He is having a terrific first year, so his decision was right. |

| :: fixes a plate of food for cottonwood ::
Here ya go, cottonwood! Enjoy!
I was out in the yard earlier today, doing some of the garden cleanup I should have done in the fall. We don't really garden here; except for mowing, most of the yard is neglected. I do have one little garden next to the house, between the house and the driveway, actually, that I try to do something with, and that was what I was tending this morning.
As always, the mints have gone wild. The rosemary, oregano, and sage are all doing well; they overwintered just fine. I pulled out weeds and dead stuff and enough mint to make mint pesto with. H, Mr. Pesto himself, will do the honors and will probably make two different kinds so we can see which we like.
It appears catnip is now growing wild in the yard; H mowed down some yesterday. The cats don't seem to react to it while it's fresh. Given the number of squatter strays around, probably a good thing that that's the case! Can you imagine?! A yard perpetually full of perpetually stoned cats, mellow or wild depending on where in the doping cycle they are, lolling about or trying to chase cars, cats, and kids. Yikes!! |

| Thanks, Owlice. Yum. A real favorite, fried chicken, roll and salad with
Coke.
Mint: Is some left for our mint juleps next Saturday, Derby Day? May
We
Catnip: I have wondered why growing catnip never seems to have cat
damage. I pick some wild around in the neighborhood and dry
it for my cat. I have sewn some into toys, too.
lol, squatter strays lolling around stoned.
I've got chives in my yard, reliably coming up each year. Here's some I picked for you. Anyone else? |

| I actually went back to my jewelry making hobby last night, and designed and put together a bracelet for the first time since discovering cc!
...
I must admit, however, that we had a storm last night and the cable went out at about 8 pm for several hours.
I've been following this thread, even though my official vigil has been over for some time. Congrats to all who are happy with their childrens' decisions, and sympathies to those having problems.
I am thinking about what will be involved in getting my son 2000 miles away to campus. He is very minimalist about things, thank goodness, totally unlike my daughter was. I am seriously thinking about getting him cheap bedding that he can just toss at the end of the year. I understand that with boys, often the sheets never get washed at all. Or if they come off the bed, they never get back on. He will be in a warm climate, so he won't need an enormous quilt.
We are very environmentally conscious, compost everything, recycle, etc. Today I even laboriously peeled off the labels of empty medication containers so that I could recycle them without putting our private medical info out into the public. But I cringe at the thought of a quilt only being used for one year. Maybe a couple of cheap blankets...
This is the fun part. |
