you read it here first: 2008 World Series - Cubs vs. White Sox

Fate seems to be moving its huge hands for Cubs-Sox World Series"

BY RICK TELANDER Sun-Times Columnist

Is it too early to dream? Of course, it is. So let's do it.

There are those of us who remember the fall of 2000 so well, the year before the 9/11 terrorist attacks, back when the New York Yankees beat the New York Mets, four games to one, to win the World Series.

Yes, folks, a big-city, crosstown rivalry settled on the grandest of playing fields, in front of the world.

I remember riding the subway from midtown Manhattan to the Bronx and from midtown Manhattan to Queens, from Rockefeller Center to Yankee Stadium, from Grand Central to Shea Stadium, and thinking how cool a crosstown World Series in Chicago would be.

The odds of it happening are slimmer than a strand of Dick Versace's hair, seeing as how the Cubs haven't played anybody in a World Series in 62 years. Never mind actually winning a World Series.

But we've got these two teams, we've got a subway -- with just 71 blocks separating The Cell from Wrigley via the Red Line -- and ...

We're dreaming here, OK?

But if you watched the way both the White Sox and Cubs won Sunday, you could envision mighty things happening on both the South Side and North Side this season. . . .
