I don't think this caper will cause these students' admissions to be rescinded

Just in case the students are worried CC posters.

"t’s a controversy involving a president and a would-be commander in chief.

But the president, in this case, is an 18-year-old Pennsylvania high school student who claims he was forced to resign as head of his senior class because he skipped gym and left school to see Democratic presidential would-be Barack Obama.

Colin Saltry, a Scranton High School senior, and fellow classmate Joey Daniel reportedly bolted school on Monday to catch a glimpse of the Illinois senator during a campaign stop at “The Glider” restaurant, just minutes away from their school.

Saltry and Daniel say they met Obama, snapped photos with him, and even had the candidate sign excuse slips to present to their teachers.

But their decision to skip out did not sit well with school administrators, who said the students broke the rules by leaving school without permission...."

You lose your student leadership position if you cut one class?

Jeez. We wouldn't have had any student leaders at my school.

Seniors need permission to leave school grounds? And we wonder why some college freshmen go crazy.

I wonder how common it is for high schools to have the rule that seniors can't leave. This is not the case at our local schools. Seniors have permission to come and go at will. "Senior privileges."

...how common is it anywhere to have rules about not being able to leave school grounds? Obviously if one cuts class there are consequences, but at my school (and all the schools in my area) you were welcome to come and go more or less at will (though you needed a valid reason to be missing class, a signed slip etc.).

As an aside, it's incredibly sweet that Obama signed excuse slips for them.

Well, these kids are apparently getting their 5 minutes of fame for the flap.
Maybe it was worth having to give up the position! A story for their grandkids!

Our high school has a closed campus. But I would have given my kids permission for that.
