Re: Ed Rendell. While the idea of an African-American President and a Jewish Vice-President has a lot of appeal, it might not fly in West Virginia (just ask Gore-Lieberman) and parts elsewhere. Plus, he needs someone with more national security credentials.

Unless Obama and Clinton work something out, what about Ed Rendell, Ted Strickland from Ohio or Easley from NC. I haven't seen anyone mention Easley yet. Is there a reason people think he's not a viable possibility?

Former NATO Commander James Jones

George Will had an excellent suggestion this morning, General James Jones. This guy was the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Supreme Commander of NATO, and is currently Head of the Institute for 21st Century Energy. He is also the Special Envoy to the MIdeast Peace Talks. This guy is so perfect for Obama that he ought sign him up before John McCain does. He has a slew of miltary decorations and is a modern Eisenhower (Ike's last position before running for President in 1952 was Supreme Commander of NATO).

As a matter of fact since he appears to be the one guy that both the Republicans or Democrats could plausibily nominate, and since the Democrats go first, Obama should give him a phone call this afternoon.

Ted Strickland, Psychologist, for Commander in Chief?

I can't believe Obama would be pick Ted StricKland, a psychologist and Minister with no military experience to be his Vice President. The Republicans would have a field day with distorted atttacks on Obama for "speaking to terrorists while Ted Strickland reviews the foreign leaders's psychological profile and asks the foreign leader to take a Myers Briggs test." If the Democrats nominate Strickland they deserve to lose and lose big.

Obama needs support in the national security area in his VP.

It won't be Rendell. There's already a clip on YouTube of him praising Louis Farrakhan. The Obama campaign won't want to see that clip in Republican ads.
