So much for Pastor Wright hurting Obama.
We'll have to get to the general election before that answer is actually known. I suspect the damage is quite substantial in swing voters (ie: middle America, where Clinton handily romps Obama).

I'm not so sure of that. I heard someone say that since the Wright affair Obama has failed to get the majority of the white vote in any subsequent primary. If so and if he has problems with the white vote for the hard-core Dems who tend to vote in primaries, how will he be able to survive in the general election when all the rest of the voters show up?

Cross-posted with and in general agreement with Mr. Payne

I heard Rush Limbaugh say that today, chuckling and chortling with glee. Basically laughing at the fact that we're still a racist country, 140 years post-slavery.

This just in: everyone has preferences for their own race. Black, White, Asian, Hispanic. Not exactly a revelation.

A quick perusal of the exit polls would reveal a 90/10 split for Obama/Hillary within the black voting group. 40/60 split for whites. That does not bode well for Obama.

Yes, it's fine for blacks to vote as a block mostly based on race but not for whites??

It always amazes me that Obama true believers will come flying in with accusations of racism against those who call Obama out on certain issues, but when pointed out that the ~90% black support he is receiving must be based at least in some significant portion on race, will vehemently deny it. The irony is amusing, the fact that these people do not realize it less so.

I didn't say there wasn't racism on both sides. Simply that Rush Limbaugh seemed to find white racists amusing.

fundingfather and Mr. Payne-

Points taken. Should have said in these 2 primary's. The GE is another story, but Obama has time to make inroads. Which in my ever sunny-outlook, I think he will.

Of course he likes it. Republicans have used white racism as a tool to win elections for many years (remember Willie Horton?) Why should they stop now?

I understand that. Still, it was revolting.

coureur - lay off the Howard Dean flavored kool ade.

Willie Horton would've been a story regardless of his race.

...or do you think that the fact that Dukakis pardoned a murderer who went on to kill again matters only to "white" people?

------

Here's a question - aren't African Americans (I use that term in spite of the fact that I oppose hyphenating anything - can't we all just be AMERICANS now?) - - aren't African Americans getting tired of painting themselves as "victims"?

I'm confused about what the different races view as "equality" - are we supposed to treat everyone *the same* or celebrate our *differences" as Rev. Wright suggests?

What is racism nowadays anyway? Is someone a racist when they don't give someone of another race a pass on everything?

Democrats have pandered to blacks for decades with strong welfare support and other such programs even though they led to the demise of the AA family.

Why is it horrible that Rev. Wright says the government is destroying black people with AIDS but perfectly okay for barrons to say the Democrats are destroying black families with welfare?

Because, as much as I find barrons' accusations disgusting and misguided, they are accusations centering around an interpretation of events. By contrast, Rev. Wright's speech centers around matters of fact. There is no interpretation of events in which the US government created AIDS - oh, I know about the Tuskegee Syphilis stuff, but that's not AIDS, and it wasn't the government creating a virus - and so when he spouts egregious rabble-rousing lies about those matters of fact from his pulpit he is held to a much higher standard.
