Just heard a new rendition of Walk Away Renee with the most gorgeous cello line running though it. The young person working at my house had never heard this beautiful song. Originally Four Tops.
______

And when I see the sign that points one way
The lot we used to pass by every day

Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same
You're not to blame

From deep inside the tears I'm forced to cry
From deep inside the pain I chose to hide

Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
For me it cries

Your name and mine inside a heart upon a wall
Still finds a way to haunt me though they're so small

Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
For me it cries

Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same
You're not to blame

(One of those songs with lyrics rather open to interpretation. A Eureka moment to see them in print)

Let 'er Rip by the Dixie Chicks.

I can tell there's something you don't want to tell me
It's killing you cause the words are hard to find
I know you want to break it to me gently
Well sweet baby say what's on your mind.

Let 'er rip, let it fly
Come on baby say it, do you think I'm gonna cry?
I ain't about to bawl and I ain't gonna die
So if you're gonna say good-bye don't take all day and night
Let 'er rip, let it fly.

Why the drama? We don't have to drag out the situation
It wasn't you, it wasn't me, sometimes the chemistry just don't ignite,
There ain't no rings, no mortgage, there ain't any complications
Just a hyphenated word, get it out, I'm sure I'll be alright.

Let 'er rip, let it fly,
Come on baby say it do you think I'm gonna cry?
I ain't about to bawl, and I ain't gonna die.
So if you wanna say good-bye don't take all day and night
Let 'er rip, let it fly.

It ain't no big deal, it ain't no great loss,
You and I are on the same train of thought
So you don't have to tell me where to get off.
Maybe I misunderstood you,
If you're leaving baby would you
Let 'er rip, let it fly,
Come on baby say it do you think I'm gonna cry?
I ain't about to bawl, and I ain't gonna die.
So if you wanna say good-bye don't take all day and night
Let 'er rip, let it fly.

Not a song, but I couldn't find the other thread. Will it ever stop hurting? xkcd - A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language - By Randall Munroe

I thought this would be another type of good-bye. Oh well, here goes; it's "Letting Go" by Suzy Boggus:

She'll take the painting in the hallway,
The one she did in jr. high
And that old lamp up in the attic,
She'll need some light to study by.

She's had 18 years to get ready for this day
She should be past the tears, she cries some anyway

Oh oh letting go
There's nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there's room enough to fly
And even though, she's spent her whole life waiting,
It's never easy letting go.

Mother sits down at the table
So many things she'd like to do
Spend more time out in the garden
Now she can get those books read too.

She's had 18 years to get ready for this day
She should be past the tears, she cries some anyway.

Oh oh letting go
There's nothing in the way now,
Oh letting go, there's room enough to fly
And even though, she's spent her whole life waiting,
It's never easy letting go.

^^^^ I'll bet Suzy Boggus jumps 20 notches on iTunes popularity charts when the rest of CC sees these lyrics!

I can't believe nobody's posted this one

50 Ways To Leave Your Lover:Paul Simon

The problem is all inside your head
She said to me
The answer is easy if you
Take it logically
I’d like to help you in your struggle
To be free
There must be fifty ways
To leave your lover

She said it’s really not my habit
To intrude
Furthermore, I hope my meaning
Won’t be lost or misconstrued
But I’ll repeat myself
At the risk of being crude
There must be fifty ways
To leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover

CHORUS:
You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don’t need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don’t need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

She said it grieves me so
To see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do
To make you smile again
I said I appreciate that
And would you please explain
About the fifty ways

She said why don’t we both
Just sleep on it tonight
And I believe in the morning
You’ll begin to see the light
And then she kissed me
And I realized she probably was right
There must be fifty ways
To leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover

CHORUS

on the subject of vicious - My D helped best friend scream these lines in a pillow as loud as Courtney Love of Hole does to let the pain out...

I want to be the girl with the most cake
I love him so much, it just turns to hate
I fake it so real I am beyond fake
And someday you will ache like I ache
Someday you will ache like I ache

"Unanswered Prayers" by Garth Brooks:

Just the other night at a hometown football game
My wife and I ran into my old high school flame
And as I introduced them the past came back to me
And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be

She was the one that I'd wanted for all times
And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine
And if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back then
I'd never ask for anything again

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

She wasn't quite the angel that I remembered in my dreams
And I could tell that time had changed me
In her eyes too it seemed
We tried to talk about the old days
There wasn't much we could recall
I guess the Lord knows what he's doin' after all

And as she walked away and I looked at my wife
And then and there I thanked the good Lord
For the gifts in my life

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

"Love Hurts" - Felice and Boudleaux Bryant

best versions: Everly Bros., Gram Parsons and Emmy Lou Harris

Love hurts.
Love scars.
Love wounds and mars
Any heart
Not tough
Or strong
Enough
To take a lot of pain,
Take a lot of pain,
Love is like a cloud,
Holds a lot of rain.
Love hurts,
Oh oh,
Love hurts.

I'm young,
I know,
But even so,
I know a thing
Or two
I've learned
From you.
I've really learned a lot,
Really learned a lot,
Love is like a flame,
Burns you when it's hot.
Love hurts,
Oh oh,
Love hurts.

Some fools dream of happiness,
Blissfulness,
Togetherness.
Some fools fool
Themselves, I guess,
But they're not fooling me.

Say it isn't true,
Say it isn't true,
Love is just a lie,
Made to make us blue.
Love hurts,
Oh oh,
Love hurts.

Of course, a more cathartic song would be the great Ray Charles standard; parenthesized lyrics sung with glee by the Raylettes:

(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.)
What you say?
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.)

Whoa woman, oh woman, don't treat me so mean,
You're the meanest old woman that I've ever seen.
I guess if you say so
I'll have to pack my things and go. (That's right)

Now baby, listen baby, don't ya treat me this-a way
Cause I'll be back on my feet some day.
(Don't care if you do 'cause it's understood)
(you ain't got no money you just ain't no good.)
Well, I guess if you say so
I'll have to pack my things and go. (That's right)

You must be joking!
(don't you come back no more.)
What you trying to do to me?
(don't you come back no more.)
I didn't understand you
(don't you come back no more.)
You can't mean that
(don't you come back no more.)
Oh, now baby, please
(don't you come back no more.)
What you tryin' to do to me?
(don't you come back no more.)
Oh, don't treat me like that
(don't you come back no more.)
