| Hindoo, you are one of the most pleasant Dems posting here. I really like reading what you have to say. I read the Newsweek on Cindy McCain last night. It impresses me that you saw it as favorable as they did not seem to hold back anything on the problems of the McCain family.
One thing I noticed was that McCain's first wife was married before and he adopted her 2 kids from that marriage. Don't know if it ended in divorce or her 1st H died. Also noted that one of her sons, who John McCain adopted, is an executive in Cindy's company. That doesn't speak to insurmountable animosity between the family members. People's lives are complicated. We need to cut them some slack.
And thanks for your posts. |

| Post no. 333, what do you do that you would have time to even know about something as obscure as that, much less read it and cite it? |

That's okay then? I guess "sordid" is a relative term.
| Yeah, it probably is a "relative" term. I imagine there are very few perfect people when it comes to the choices we've made throughout our lives. I'm not in line with John McCain's politics, or his occasional unseemly joke-telling, but I'll give him a pass on his personal life. He's been with Cindy for a long time and they've raised an apparently solid family that's managed to stay out of the negative headlines through the years. Why keep crucifying him for a marriage that didn't work out a quarter of a century ago? ... Quote: |

| I was pleasantly surprised by the article. I'll admit I never wanted to "like" Cindy McCain in any way, preferring to see her as a spoiled, wealthy, Stepford-ish trophy wife. The article opened a window into who she actually is, an interesting, complex person who's done some good things and not-so-good things. As have we all. ... I also find Michelle Obama very appealing. She's been castigated for her rather inflammatory college senior thesis, but, as with McCain, I'll give her a pass. She's a 44-year-old professional and mother of two; doubtless she's grown and matured in the past 23 years. I know I have. Especially the "grown" part. (Well, I'm not THAT bad, but I dwell on it anyway!)
Oh, and thank you mercymom for your kind comments. Zoosermom can tell you that I haven't always been so "nice" on CC, but I try harder these days. I've found it's more fun to discuss and debate without demonizing everyone who disagrees with me. |

| Especially since the ex-wife states publicly that she "loves and supports" him. That's enough for me to believe that it's simply of a marriage that ended. Quote: |

| Nice is a relative term, too. It's kind of funny that the poster with whom I've had the most vociferous disagreement lately is someone on my own side of the debate, and a poster with whom I often disagreed has left the forum, leaving a large void IMO. |

| Just cause you're on the same side, doesn't mean you're there for the same reasons (nothing meant about you, zm, just in gen'l). What I like about these threads is it's often my only chance to find out what the other side thinks and why they think it. It is a real education. How often do polar opposites ever interact with each other these days in "real life"? Plus getting geographic regional differences in thinking as well.
As for McCain, my D who supports Obama softened up on McCain a little while she was home between school and her REU when she saw McCain on SNL and the Jon Stewart show. It is so weird to me that they (students) get like 90% + of their "news" from Jon Stewart. This D took an american history class this spring where Stewart's book (title?) was the textbook!! She wants me to get a copy at B&N, where it's on the bargain table. Haven't done it yet, tho. |

| Jon Stewart and Lorne Michaels (SNL) seem to like McCain, and have booked him on their shows repeatedly over the years. They both seem to have overlooked the fact that he's evil! |

| Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama, despite being the devils incarnate, have also been pretty funny on SNL and The Daily Show. |

| I remember Obama being on NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me a loooong time ago. He was doing "Not my job" segment. He was funny and nice and smart and failed miserably. I've been a fan ever since. |

| ^^It's like lazy students wanting someone to tell them what's in the book instead of reading for themselves.
Read his biography and read his website. It has enough plans to keep you from posting on CC for a while. google him. Theres plenty of information pro and con. |

Good Lord, I certainly appreciate Stewart's talent and appeal. But using his book as a text in a HISTORY class??? Quote: |

| THis is more than weird. It is really tragic. |

| That made news in the last election when they polled college age kids. They found most college kids got their news from Stewart, Colbert and Maher.
Obviously candidates realize this or they wouldn't be going on the show. I suspect that McCain who has been on The Daily Show for years now started this because of his own kids...Jack is @ 21 and his daughter Megan is @23. |

| That kids are watching John Stewart is a good thing. Why? Because the humor on his show is aimed at informed people. If you are not up on current events you won't get the jokes. |
