Henry Cho was also funny in Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. I will see them again when their second movie shows up on DVD on 7/28 (Harlod and Kumar escape from Guantanamo Bay)

I think it is John Cho not Henry

Oh, I like the Daily Show and Colbert Report too. There's just so much out there. Movies: A Fish Called Wanda, Fierce Creatures, Death at a Funeral, old Chevy Chase movies (Vacation, European Vacation). Loved old Bill Cosby and George Carlin routines. Remember when there used to be comedy albums? They'd put out LP vinyls with comedy on them, and you'd just listen, like radio sort of (that surely dates me).

Some stuff must be generational tho. When we took our teens to see the Holy Grail musical, we rented the movie first so they'd get the jokes. Well, they didn't like the movie or the musical and didn't think either one was funny. Plus, I noticed how middle aged the audience at the musical was. Same thing sort of for Young Frankenstein, and H and I still like Mel Brooks, altho I really did not like the Producers movie at all. Never saw the show for that one.

Harold and Kumar was good. Also, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (?), time machine movie. New Yorker cartoons, Doonesbury, ZITS (cartoon).

mercymom, have you seen the original Producers movie with Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder? It's head and shoulders above the remake.

That's odd. I'm sixteen and nearly everyone I know loves the Holy Grail. I myself am a huge Monty Python fan; I always try and catch the re-runs on BBC America.

As per Jean Shepherd--
A Christmas Story is still one of my favorite movies, and such a big part of the movie is his voice-over narration. I never heard his old radio stuff but enjoyed the books.

His radio stuff was basically the same kind of stuff you find in the books (Wanda Hickey et al.) but told in his inimitable voice.

Booklady, yes, I did see the Zero Mostel version of The Producers, ages ago, and I liked that a lot. Perhaps that is why I was so disappointed with the remake.

Elven Hobbit, I'm glad you like Monty Python. It makes me feel a little less geriatric to know you and your friends like them. Don't know why my kids don't like it, but it is not their cup of tea.

Chris Rock and Jackie Chan were good in Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2 (did not see Rush Hour 3). Another tv show I liked was Frazier. We saw David Hyde Pierce in Curtains and really enjoyed it.

>>Before there was David Sedaris, before there was Garrison Keillor, there was Jean Shepherd.<<

I like all those guys. I liked Mort Sahl back in the day too, even though I was only in Jr. High at the time.

And I love most all of Monty Python. And my kids like Monty Python too. No generational gap there. But it wasn't until they were a little older and watched the Python shows for themselves that they realized they had been raised with a constant low-level stream of Monty Pythonisms being said around the house. E.g. whenever anyone said that weren't expecting something the reply would be "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition...."

One thing that I've never found funny that others often do: jokes or skits based on flatulence.

How about Steven Wright?

Here are some samples:

I stayed up all night playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

And No Time Tolouse! I'm fond of Fawlty Towers and for comedians, I like Mike MacDonald. He had HBO special a few yrs ago, but I haven't heard much of him since.

My favorite Steven Wright quote: "My family had a quicksand box. I was an only child...eventually."

Love Daily Show and Colbert. Monty Python and Holy Grail is an icon in my house; I'm pretty sure my son could repeat the entire script if called upon to do so. Loved the Airplane movies, Mel Brooks movies, etc.

Our family's current favorite contemporary stand up comedians would have to be Lewis Black and Eddie Izzard.
