| "Church Cancels Teen Gun Giveaway!" Church Cancels Teen Gun Giveaway - Oklahoma City News Story - KOCO Oklahoma City
So what do you all think? I live in Oklahoma where this happened but this even astonished me (not the canceling it - the plan to give it). Of course i am English and was not raised with any exposure to guns at all and do not like them - but I do know lots of perfectly nice people here that do like guns and hunting (something I don't understand either though i have to confess the wild turkey my friend fed us at Thanksgiving last year was far better tasting than the frozen ones i am used to). So while not really understanding the whole gun culture thing at all i have grown a little more accustomed. But a church planning to give away a semi automatic assault rifle at a youth conference!!?? Even trying to see past my personal prejudice against guns it seems - well - bizarre. My daughter has been to many youth conferences and bibles and prayer and song were more the order of the day. I must send her this link while i think of it. |

| Definitely bizarre! Couldn't they find a more appropriate prize? I just can't see any reason for a church to give an assault rifle to a teenager. What message does that send? My boys have both attended youth conferences, but they did NOT have anything like that. |

In expression of our God-given Second Amendment rights! It sends a message that if the people of Oklahoma are not prepared to defend themselves through the barrel of a gun, they will be overrun by Al-Qaeda, or worse, by Democrats. |

| Ah, mini, I can always count on you to supply a logical explanation! That must be it... |

| Who thought it would be smart to give teens weapons, when they can't even drive without permits? And a church? Jesus would have been ever so proud |

| There are so many things to love about that article and the video.
The pastor says "Our prime target are (sic) the youth." Target?
Canadians will evidently do anything to get their hands on a gun.
I don't think I'd want a gun nearby when all those kids get there and find out there's 21 hours of preaching and no gun. |

| It does sound odd, but the article also mentioned a marksmanship competition as part of the event. It was probably just a social/fun activity to attract teens.
"Semi-automatic assault rifle" is a contradiction in terms. Assault rifles are capable of automatic fire...not that the media or politicians will ever care...
What the media terms "assault rifles" are some of the most popular rifles for target shooting and hunting. |

| When I saw the story, I thought that the news media had been conned. It was very hard to believe that any church could think that giving away a gun --an assault rifle at that -- was appropriate. |

| The only reason they cancelled it was because someone involved couldn't be there -- they plan to give it away at next year's conference instead.
How utterly bizarre this is! |

| I'd find myself a new church. Personally, I'd rather lisen to a crazy pastor for 20 years. |
