Target has memory foam mattress pads for about $20 right now. D ended up getting her comforter there as well as her sheets and bedrest.

Last year everyone told S he needed a memory foam for bed-mattresses were hard, lumpy, uncomfortable, etc. We heard it from everyone who had college age student-GET THE MEMORY FOAM!! Purchased a good one (about $89.00) from B,B,Beyond. Everyone said the cheap ones fell apart, etc. Anyways, spoke to son a few days after we moved him in and he said the foam was off the bed. Made it too hot he said. He bagged it up and it is now in storage unit. I will make sure I retrieve it when move him back this year. It will be saved for younger D-maybe she will use it!

I never bought the foam for my son. I knew that he had no problem sleeping in cabins in summer camp (awful old mattresses), on the floor when camping out, he can also sleep easily on an army cot. I figured if he needed it, he would buy it later. I never heard one complaint about his mattress.

I insisted that my S needed a foam mattress topper; he insisted he didn't. I bought one, we made up his bed with that and a nice mattress pad on top and then the sheet. He didn't say anything until we came to pick him up after his first year ended. That's when he thanked me profusely for insisting that he put one on his bed! He didn't use the lightweight comforter we bought him, however, saying that a top sheet was enough!

My D has a "feather bed" mattress topper for her dorm bed. Yes, it is an XL Twin, hypo-allergenic. She loves that thing and is missing it now that she's home!! She's a warm body as a rule, but no problems sleeping on top of this thing so it must allow decent circulation.

We are going for Orientation Wed-Fri and BOTH will be sleeping in the dorms for 2 nights. I guess it will be a good time for us to try out the mattresses in their normal state.

| Refrigerator Deal
I found that Linens n Things has a Haier 3.9 cu ft refrigerator + freezer for $139.99, but most places offer it for somewhere around $179. Then I found out that there is currently a $40 mail in rebate. So then I went to the store and used my BBB coupon for 20% off. I will end up only having to pay $71.99 for the whole thing. Isn't that a great deal?

^I got it in the mail. I think you can sign up online and say you'd like offers/coupons in the mail. I'm not sure if the sale will last until Linens n things sends out another coupon.

You can print a BBB or Linens N Things coupon from the internet usually. Just do a Google search. My LNT is going out of business so I cannot use a coupon there darn it.
Back from Orientation where I slept on a mattress in the normal dorm for Freshman boys and also in an upper class single room and happy to report the mattresses were just fine in both. D had no complaints about her mattress in the Freshman Girls Suite style residence either.

There is almost always a BBB and/or LNT coupon in our Sunday paper. Just check your sale booklets and there will be one on the back of the store's sales flyer. I save EVERY BBB and LNT coupon I receive and have a ziplok full in my car. I use them on everything I buy there and like to use them buying health and beauty aides at BBB. BBB at some of their store have a large beauty section so I buy shampoo, vitamins, and as many thing as I can at 20% off! I have some coupons that expired 2 years ago, but the stores still take them.

Saw a big sign in BBB last week saying they will no longer be accepting expired coupons after a certain date (think it was July 31, but not sure.) I don't know if this is chain-wide or just this specific store.

I have not noticed that in any of my stores, but I hope it isn't true. I have many more LNT coupons than BBB, so I have been trying to use those up first while shopping at BBB. I also still have several $5 off coupons, so I use those also. Most sales people don't even look at which store coupon it is, and never look at the date.
I see no reason to pay full price for something that I can get 20% off of. If you return an item that you have used a coupon on, make sure you ask for a replacement coupon. The sales people won't offer it, but if you ask they will give you one.

OK, what might be a superbly stupid question, but I will chance it:
Would it work for a kid to use a full sized comforter on an x-long twin dorm bed? I was hoping to avoid buying my kid another comforter. But I am finding myself wondering if it will be dragging on the floor ...

^It depends on how high the bed is. Some people actuallly purposely buy a full size so that they will have more to cover with. I don't think it will be a big problem, but it might be kind of close to the ground (I guess that would be good because it would hide everything under the bed). Here is something about it.
