Ooo.. if you rememeber, PLEASE let me know. In that case, does anybody know what I can do to hang poster sized frames on walls without making a hole in the wall? Does that putty stuff work? What about double stick tape? Thanks!

The tape and hooks are made by 3M. It is removable. But be SURE to save the packaging as it tells you how to remove it without wrecking the wall.

I just saw the hooks in the store-- they are called "Command", by 3M.

I got a good feather comforter thorugh costco.com and a nice cover through the company Store. Not too cheap, but pretty.

I've seen the Command hooks in a number of places, including Bed Bath & Beyond and the Container Store. I believe places like Target and Staples carry them.

odessy is right-- you can find the command removable hooks/tape/what have you almost anywhere-- office supply stores, discount stores (Wal Mart, Target, etc) even supermarkets, as well as the higher end stores (where you'll be charged too much).

For hanging posters and bulletin boards...after a year in a dorm and a year in an on-campus apartment, the 3M Command Velcro tabs did not pull the paint off the walls. The 3M non-Velcro tabs did, even though they are supposedly made for hanging posters. You pull the Velcro tabs off first, then the backing peels right off the wall.

I think we got dinged $50 that first year in the dorm for the holes left by the non-Velcro tabs! Last year, D used only the 3M Velcro-type tabs, and we had no problems at all.

We buy ours from The Container Store.

His likely dorm has two brick walls, one all window wall and then the door/closet wall. Do these "Command" things work on brick? Or shall he just resort to duct tape for any posters, which might coordinate best with his decor anyway?

For those of us whose kids have sensitivity to wool, what are the best winter socks? Cotton, with wool over? Or are there non-wool that are just as warm?

In case you didn't know (I didn't), this is what they told me today when I went to "scan in" my dorm purchases for S via Pack and Hold.

• I can use as many coupons as I want (you pay at the college town location, not the location where you scan your selections)
• expired coupons are fine, bring them all

The salesperson mentioned to me that the Boston stores are by far the busiest with the whole college Pack and Hold thing (big surprise ) and that they get so busy that oftentimes Maine sales associates have to go down there to help them in the late August/early September season - says folks come with "stacks" of coupons.

I just wanted to pass on something my neice, who is a senior in college, told me yesterday. I was asking about laundry and how many clothes I should send with my S. She laughed and said, "Don't you know about the compression method of laundry?" I replied that I didn't. She went on to explain the concept. You start a pile of dirty clothes at the beginning of the semester, as you wear more, just add them to the pile. When you begin to run out, pull the ones out from the bottom. They are clean because all of the dirt has been pushed out of them by the weight on top. ha ha

EW! But, I can definitely see my DS using this.
