| How many dramatic shows are, there, really, that remain good for more than four or five years? J.P. Patches!
probably Gertrude's angst wasn't what you were thinking about.
( I watched J.P. for about ten years- my mom watched Gunsmoke for twenty)
The west wing was on for seven years.
Bob Newhart had a show for a long time ( a couple actually)
The Simpsons have been on since 1989,Happy Days was on for ten years ( Henry Winkler/Ron Howard & Andy Griffith all endorse Obama- but what do you expect from Hollywood )
I stopped watching West Wing on television but through rentals and itunes have watched the entire series.
I don't buy things I don't want-
If you don't want it- don't buy it or don't watch it.
Apparently the people in charge of funding don't realize GA, jumped the shark long ago- but as long as people are watching it and talking about it- they are still able to sell advertising & make money-, they really don't have to care if you like it.
There are a lot of shows or themes that I have mentioned that I dislike.
I don't watch those- I don't read those books- I don't listen to that music.
But others may have a different take- it's no skin off my nose if they do.
I don't think it is my right to dictate what legal entertainment other adults choose & as far as it being on at 9pm- that is your local affillate who decides that & who controls the remote in your house anyway?

LJMama, your "belief" is contradicted by scientific evidence, and is deeply offensive to those of us who have gay children, family members, or friends. I am so tired of the Christian right acting like we are persecuting them when you are trying to inflict your concept of "sin" on everyone else. It is merely a convenient way for you to try to bottle up any behavior that isn't just like your own. The fact that my child is gay does not harm you in any way. But when people like you treat her as if her sexuality is shameful or bad, it certainly hurts her. Who is the kinder person in this situation? I thought that kindness was the most fundamental teaching of Christianity, but apparently only when it is convenient for you. Please explain to me how are you harmed if my child is gay, and why it is wrong for her to be able to live freely without discrimination or hatred from people like you?

Umm, explain to me, LJMama, how gay marriage "affects" all of us? Exactly HOW does it affect your family or mine? I have gay friends who live together as loving couples, and so far, they haven't managed to corrupt me or my children. ...
So, I guess according to you the New Testament is just so much horse sh**, with it's insipid prattling about love and acceptance? Where, precisely, did Jesus preach that homosexuality is evil and wrong? Please, enlighten me. Give me a quote and a passage. Please. ... I'm sick to death of bigoted, narrow-minded hypocrites who profess to know what God wants. Do you really think our God is so incredibly small and cruel and petty and insignificant that he would create homosexuals and then despise them? My personal God is much better than that. ... Plus, there is evidence of "gayness" in many different species other than humankind. Is it all just an evil conspiracy against good "Christians"?
What the hell business is it of ours, anyway? Why should we even care? Tell me how it harms us if two loving same-sex partners marry? Please. I really want to know.

LJMama- You are entitled to your opinion, but what I take issue with is you portraying your view as the "Christian" view. I am an Episcopalian (last I checked that was Christian) who is a strong supporter of Bishop Gene Robinson of NH, my former church home's gay Rector and the many other devoted gay CHRISTIANS who are fighting for acceptance.

MomofWildChild - read #116, and not all Christians believe what you believe, either.
Hindoo - this was not about gay marriage.
Jump, jump, jump.

I don't care for the Hate/fear agenda too much myself- but I am willing to listen to why " you people" think it is any of your damn business what my family decides to watch on tv.
Actually now that I think about it- there has been a lot on TV I have really enjoyed.
Why obsess over what you don't like?

Wow! Reading through most of these posts again, how is it that I don't just "jump ship" and come on over to your side? You all are so inviting and kind. How in the world do I stay in this 'camp' of so-called "hatefulness" and not run right over to 'your' tolerant side??

It also will not be surprising if many of you jump all over me, too, for posting my opinion. It will sound as if I am a lunatic even to have this opinion, just as it has sounded like that in regard to the original poster.
The "tolerant" are so blatantly intolerant of a conservative, Christian viewpoint.
| Do you think that others being "tolerant" means that you get to express yourself and everyone has to agree with you? I see you posted a definition, maybe you should go back and read it yourself.
I love the right-wing mindset. "I get to say what I feel like saying, but if anyone dares speak out against it, oh my god, they're intolerant godless atheists who are taking away my freedom of speech! Discrimination! Only we get to express ourselves."

It is the mean-spirited, personally attacking manner in which you express your opinion against me.

LJMama, I was wondering if you could tell us how you define "wrong", since you put being gay under that category. A secular definition please, one without reference to the bible. Then, I'd appreciate it if you could explain to me how being gay falls under that definition. Just trying to understand your thought process, thanks!

Hindoo,
I watched 4 episodes of the West Wing in a row today. That was a great show - and it did run from 99-06.

LJMama, we are still waiting for you to clarify how the actions of our gay loved ones affect you. People like you make their lives miserable, nearly unbearable at times. Please explain, how are they are hurting you? How do you justify the hurt that you inflict upon them? My child has no interest in asking you to engage in gay behavior, but merely for acknowledgment of her right to live as a complete human being. This is not "jumping" or "mean spirited", it is asking you to provide a rational defense of your hurtful behavior.

Why do you say that?
OP asked if others agreed.
"Others", replied- well actually, no we don't agree & why should we?
"Others" BTW also include conservative Christians- but as you should know- "conservative Christian " is in the eye of the beholder.
One man's conservative Christian is another man's rightwing wacko & another's commie liberal. |

I can't wait for Obama to get elected so that we can have more complex minority characters on TV.
Charlie was one of my favorites on WW, but he was so good The West Wing - Toby and Charlie make bail
I think he did punch somebody- but it was off screen.

As a gay teenager, I am curious what this "gay agenda" is that you are talking about.
Disgusting people like you are the reason I am not open about my sexuality to anyone. I have experienced too much emotional pain in my life to self-disclose information like that to others, and I hate that I can't. I know it is not nice to criticize and judge people, but I have no tolerance or sympathy for people like you.
