The kid you "wish" for
Pales in comparison to
The kid on the couch.

How can one capture
In five hundred measly words
Such amazing kids?

Cookie cutter kids
with boring applications.
MY kid is DIFFERENT.

Admissions Office,
see my kid for what he is --
promise me you will.

Flagship public U
Offers full ride, laptop, perks...
We love our safety.

Got them to this point
without major incidents.
School, handle with care.

How to get a 12?
Criteria make no sense.
Those stinking essays.

All those other kids
with all those ECs must have
padded resumes.

Grades, test scores sky-high?
Those kids all must have cheated!
Except mine, of course.

Thread after thread reads,
"Chance me, and I'll chance you back."
CC mating calls?

This class or that class --
What looks best to colleges?
Joy of learning, what?

The kitchen's a mess;
the laundry calls. Yet I sit
writing these haikus....

Yes, I should stop, but --
given the alternative --
no surprise I don't.

Why'd you post this thread?
I must get to work cleaning.
rt, I need help!

I see you geek_mom
In the blue glow of your screen
being creative

No need for worry
No I am not a stalker
See myself in you

Oh, historymom,
The two of us should really
try to get a life!

Standardized testing.
Another Saturday, gone.
Sunday, I'll sleep in.

Applications in...
All over but the waiting...
April, come faster!

Spam in the inbox,
stacks and stacks of college mail,
but will they take me?

An application...
My life condensed to ten pages...
How will they know me?

Son, please come home now!
An envelope came today,
and I think it's fat!

First choice, deferral.
Your loss, Toots! My second choice
gave me merit aid!

Barely breathing, she
rips open the envelope.
YES! ... and the rest fades.

Filled out the FAFSA,
Our EFC is, what now?
Are they serious?

Oh yessss, my Precioussss...
The glowing screen, it beckons...
And the light, it burns!

geek_son plays war games
and I click around to feed
my CC addiction.

Harriet M Welsch,
I read your jokes with delight
on the meta-thread!

It's so funny, but
after three days of reading
I'm still not caught up....

Modadunn, welcome!
We'll enjoy your company
on this haiku thread!

Tell nobody of
your torrid CC affair.
Good luck to your son!

First child is all set
Loves his college and his friends
Dislikes coming home.

Now comes second child
So different from her sibling
Search must start from scratch.

D do this for me -
Look at these college websites.
You like the wrong ones!?

EC page, you tease!
You demand we say so much
in so little space.

We have now mastered
using small, bite-sized phrases
to describe great works.

I bet geek_son could
write these better than I can...
is haiku a hook??

Sometimes "chance me" threads
contain disinformation --
some folks like to lie.

Bright, well-rounded kid,
resist intimidation --
go on and apply!

OK, I'll admit,
I need a Haiku Power.
How embarrassing.
