"I can't talk now, Mom"-
words of a busy student.
But the voice is his.

Four M.E. classes?
Taken all at the same time?
Can you even breathe?

I see these questions
on CC in many forms
Over and over:
Am I a bad mom
if I love the kid on the couch
but wish he'd try harder?
Is her life over
if she doesn't get into
HYPMS?
Or if she gets in
but EFC is too high...
we're both failures, yes?
This is the dark side
of College Confidential --
artificial stress.
Parents, don't worry...
"average kids" and high achievers
can all find a place.
So many choices,
and most of them terrific.
It will all work out!

Eighteen...all grown up...
Calls me from school science fair,
"Bring my dressy clothes!"
(this actually happened yesterday!)

"Jacket is too small;
interview's in three minutes"
He thinks I can help?
"Then wear the black one."
"Really? And with the gray pants?
I'm going to trust you."
Twenty year old son
Can live abroad by himself
But cannot get dressed.

Now they're my new role models
I welcome the change
