It's snowing . . . again!

That's it -- I'm done mollycoddling all you parents from the South and California who ask how your kids are going to survive the winters in the Northeast and the Midwest. I am going to gleefully report that it's snowing -- again! 6-8 inches forecast here in the upper Midwest. We also had a couple of mornings this week where temperatures were still in the single digits.
If you have to ask . . . we don't want you! You're all a bunch of wimps! Only the hardy need apply!
(DISCLAIMER -- please note tongue that is firmly in cheek! The weather report, alas, is accurate and we are all dreaming of a far-away spring.)
Peace out.

Ahh, the joy of long hard winters. I can assure you I don't miss it.

What I do miss is the spring fever that kicks in just about the time that elm trees bloom.

We have more coming Sunday afternoon. I'm a hardy New Englander but a whole season cleaning off roofs does take a toll right now. Lots of coworkers taking warm weather vacations in the next few weeks here.

My Texas-raised daughter used to think that once it got below 32, all further temperature declines didn't mean much. She has discovered that 0 and 25 are really quite different!

I think this is the longest winter I can remember. We haven't had very much in the way of snow, but it is always cold and I am so over it.

Literally, just walked in from shoveling about 2 inches - it has stopped for now, but maybe more to come...

Hee Hee - this is the second worst winter I have had here in Western New York, the worst was the year it snowed on Mothers Day, not flurries, the heavy gotta get out and shovel it snow...

It was hard to return to more snow after a college visit on a 70-degree plus day this past week. Yesterday I saw a group of students that were obviously in town to tour the Eastman School and they were shivering so badly I wanted to offer them all boots, what they were wearing on their feet would not survive half a Rochester winter...

Southern California's been hit pretty hard with the snow, too. My parents have had more feet at a time this year than we've had in about 10 years or so.

Plus it made the deck collapse.

It's harder when you live in California and get tons of snow, even if you live somewhere that gets at least a little snow every year. It causes some serious cognitive dissonance, especially when you're only a couple hours from the hottest, driest place in North America.

I can see snow in the mountains of San Diego County from my deck.....while standing there in my bare feet, shorts, and t-shirt.

I want the people in areas with harsher weather (I used to live in some of those areas) to know that at least I very much appreciate the great weather we have here - I don't take it for granted.

Friends hiked in a blizzard up in the mountains on my island this past weekend. Can see the snow from my windows in the mountains. Had a bit of hail and then clear blue skies, pretty cold. It's February. I am very pleased: the drought is done for......lots of snow pack! So for those of you in the upper midwest: you never worry about water. That is a gift.

It's snowing again here in the hills of Western Massachusetts. We finally took the plunge and had a 8KW generator installed. The major ice storm back in December (power out for 26 hours, but other towns nearby were without power for 2 weeks or more) convinced us that it was about time. With that said, I still wouldn't trade our lives here for anyplace else, including Florida, where we lived for several years before coming back home to New England.

Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead in the mountains above San Bernardino. It's about 80 miles from Los Angeles and 70 miles from Palm Springs.
