What Have You Done For Yourselves Lately?

All of the focus has been on the kids (and still is) but its summer and time to take time out for ourselves. Me? I'm searching for that perfect hairstyle (tired of the basic bob) and I've got a stack of summer reading waiting for me. DH is getting out of work a little earlier twice a week to get on the golf course (as a practice buddy w/DD). Hope you're doing something for yourselves this summer!

During the school year we barely had time to do the laundry each week. Now that summer's here, clean clothes actually make it all the way up to the bedrooms and into the dresser drawers. Does that count?

j/k

I think I'll read a book (maybe 2!) this summer. Can't remember the last time I could do that.

I run. H built me a gorgeous, expensive bike and I have to start riding it. I didn't want to do it before my marathon because I didn't want to interfere with my running training, but now I have to figure out this complicated bike! We tend to get out of work early on Fridays. H and I are going to take a vacation to St. John next week. We are due a vacation that doesn't involve someone doing a ridiculous athletic event.

I've been trying out a few restaurants and having a few nice meals with hubby at different spots when the mood strikes--not expensive but just some time together. It's nice!

Have also been doing this one-on-one with my D & also separately with my mom. It has been a delicious summer so far!

I bought seven books two weeks ago and have read six of them already!

Also, I'm writing a screenplay.

I'm slowly but steadily working on reclaiming my girlish figure from my nefarious archrivals, bread and chocolate!

... and I downloaded a Sudoku app for my phone today.

Took a risk and applied for a job that is quite different from what I do today, and that I really wanted. Didn't get it... but opened up some possibilities for future work with the same organization, so it was worth taking the chance! It feels like I have opened up some options that were not there before.

Yesterday I persuaded Husband to take Daughter to volleyball practice while I sat in the pool on a raft. (Of course, I was the one who packed same D for cheer camp.)

Read several books and sat on the deck and enjoyed the sunset.....zen moments.....especially when recalling how as a mother of babies and toddlers I thought I would never again have time to just read for enjoyment

H and I are going for our first overseas vacation since we got married--two weeks in Ireland--very excited!

Also spending as much time as I/we can down the Shore--am burning up a lot of vacation time this summer...hope I don't regret it next winter.

Am still plugging along with the writing (first draft of novel done, stories still being sent out--got a bonebreaking rejection today, oh well.)

Have stepped up the exercise--walking and biking, kayaking when I can, and am starting to see tiny, miniscule results.

Joined Facebook today.......not sure how I feel about that. Feels really confusing and a little cloying. We'll see....

Reading quite a bit.

I was thinking "nothing" but I did join Facebook and that has been very fun because I've reconnected with a lot of friends from high school (33 years ago...) and now I'm really looking forward to our 35th reunion. DH and I just discussed this weekend planning for a big "just us" trip but we haven't decided where yet. Oh, and I'm starting home renovations which really made me laugh when we went to see the Transformers movie and after their house gets partially blown up Sam's parents decide it's the first phase of their renovations, lol!

Great thread...made me smile to participate, so thanks!

"We are due a vacation that doesn't involve somebody doing a ridiculous athletic event."

Are you sure this is actually legal?
