I was fascinated by the contrast between Kristin and Lea during "Maybe This Time" - Lea did it very straightforward, Kristin gave it more oomph.

I've still got that blasted Beyonce song from last week going through my head, though.

Which is why it kinda made sense when the director ( I can't think of his name) said it wasn't working, he needed a more mature Sally Bowles.

Love glee! Just love it! So campy, so fun.

I will say I'm not thrilled with the pregnancy story lines. Too serious while also being absolutely absurd. It's not working, in my opinion.

But the rest of it is pure joy and silliness!

I loved the Chenoweth/Michele non-duet, too, but I thought Michele's reading was a perfectly good one -- more appropriate to her character, and more appropriate to the Sally Bowles character, while Chenoweth performed the song-associated-with-Liza-Minelli version. I also thought they communicated pretty well that the Rachel character completely identified with the song, and that the older character didn't believe what she was singing for a minute, but loved to be performing it. Great work!

Kristin Chenoweth is a proud graduate of Oklahoma City University. It was my favorite school last year but for all the wrong reasons - awesome Musical Theatre and Dance programs. But alas, Son is a psych major and it was his second choice. But if anyone is interested in OCU they give fantastic merit aid.

I watched for the first time last night because of the recommendations here. I think I'm going to have to see it from the beginning to "get it" though. My biggest concern is whether the big awkward guy who can't sing is the lead male. I really hope not since there are so many really talented kids out there who would be great. Maybe he is supposed to be awkward and not a great singer though - that is why I have to see more.

Watched it online during my prep period at school while correcting papers today. It was a fun episdode and the musical numbers were awesome. I think I will have to download them from ITunes.

cartera: my husband said the same thing; I think he is supposed to be awkward, after all he's transitioning from football to Glee, but in terms of lousy singing, not so sure, but we did agree....that it was lousy, at least last night it was......

rodney - that is what I hoped was the case. It would break for heart to know that all the talented triple threat kids were passed up for a guy who looked awkward even walking around on the stage. I guess he will "transition" over the season.

cartera, you were right with your concern. The boy who plays Finn canNOT sing yet we are supposed to believe that he was brought into Glee club to save the day. However, as I said earlier, the show is not meant to be believable, in any way, shape or form. I really wish they'd let the singers really sing and stop the lip-syncing.

I think last night was Kristin's only episode. Like John Lloyd Young, a one timer.

Agree with JHS re: Lea's Sally. A much more believable, and accurate, interpretation than Kristin's, which, I believe, was the point.

As I recall, the director heard Finn singing in the shower and blackmailed him.

I think the "saving the day" part was in getting more popular kids (football players and cheerleaders) to join.

But now as parents of teens, don't we agree that Finn is less awkard than most of the teen boys we know? My son was in Jazz Choir (the closest thing we have to Glee.) He was always about the only boy who would dance without looking like he wanted to die. For this year, only 3 boys tried out. To get two more boys to join, the director had to promise them that they wouldn't have to dance.

I actually heard a radio interview the week before the premiere episode with the Glee kids. The boy who plays Finn said that he’s never had voice training and didn’t consider himself to be a singer. He knows he's the weakest singer in the group. The radio station had the African American girl sing a song unprepared, live and it was amazing. Hearing her sing on the radio is what prompted me to watch the show. My Wednesday line up is SYTYCD, Glee, and Top Chef. Fave night of the week!

me too, fireflyscout! but that might be because I haven't deleted that episode from Tivo yet, and D and I have watched the opening scene and the football dance over and over

I said to D after last night's show that Glee is getting to be an expensive habit - after every show I go to Itunes and buy all the songs!

Since no one else has mentioned it, let me give props to a real first on Glee. Yes, the coming-out scene was touching and appropriate, but it's been done before. I don't remember any other show dealing with one of the most "pressing" issues affecting teenage boys the way this one has. I thought my son was going to fall out of his chair.

Glee is really the best American approximation of Bollywood I have seen.
