I am a bit worried about my daughter ( age 12 ) She seems so melancholy and unwilling to discuss the matter..maybe it is too much , considering her workload from missing so much school lately...but I worry about how she is processing this..and Rufus' buddy does not want to eat, BunsenBurner...alll the pets seem a little off , even the one cat who really kind of bullied him...argh ! Why do I have pets on top of children ??

Sorry for your loss. I still keep photos of our beloved dog and a cast pawprint along with his nametag sitting on a shelf in the den. Pets are loyal and loving. We need them, and miss them when they are gone.

lje - please keep an eye on the cat who desn't want to eat.
I keep the pictures of my old kitties in the living room. My new kitties have the same names and even look somewhat like my beloved departed cats - they fill the void left in my heart when my old kitties died.

So so sorry! One of my worst days was when my pet died. 3 years later (yes. It took us that long) we have a new wonderful dog, whom we love and adore. Time helps.

It was 10 years ago, but I still remember our cat's death as if it were yesterday. Getting a new cat was the best thing we could have done for our kids and ourselves

I am so very sorry for your loss. I hope in time the fact that your kitty went over the rainbow bridge (and please look up rainbow bridge site, it's a very comforting site) without pain or fear, and being well loved and fed will comfort you. I did not have pets as a child and when we lost my first cat due to a heart attack at 15 1/2, my family grieved terribly. My son was nine at the time, and we were devastated.
We now have three tuxedo cats, all rescues, one stray, and an outdoor striped tabby cat.
The giref we experience when we lose one of our furry babies is the price we pay for their loving company.
My sympathies to you and your family.

I went to the Rainbow Bridge site and copied this for you. Hope it helps
----------------------------------------------------------------
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
