I found this forum two years ago when daughter 2 was in the application process. I think I found it through the Princeton Review or maybe even her college's parents discussion board.
I am here only from my home computer, though I could certainly browse at work too.
I am usually in the parents cafe , but I read all kinds of topics and posts. I feel lucky to have found the wealth of info here..and the support of fellow parents on sooo many issues !

oldfort, good suggestion for me! I have an issue where if I set up a conference call for my DH the way our phones work I can't hang up or the conference call goes dead. I end up sitting for a long time with no one talking to me but I can't hang up. Because of our business when I set up the call I generally say "X you have Y on the line and I AM STILL on the line with you both" that way they don't use the F word too many times and get embarassed. Of course, DH knows I talk like a truck driver half the time. |

I'm in the cockpit flying my NWA jet and like to check out what's what on CC. Gotta go, the Tower's bugging me.

Good one, Batllo.
I was lurking on PR about six years ago, when someone there posted about CC. It's MUCH nicer here! My oldest D finishes college this December, but I expect to be visiting CC for a few more years.

Came over from that other site in 2003, I believe. Might have been earlier. Certainly it was around then, as I remember--even then--my D making fun of me for being on a college admission site AFTER she'd completed her applications.
Now I'm STILL on a college admission site 2 1/2 years after BOTH KIDS HAVE GRADUATED from college. I'm slightly embarrassed by this, but not very. I like the crowd (mostly)... adult, well-educated, willing to argue politics heatedly one day and then provide useful information the next day. And where else could you find a recipe for chocolate cake AND a discussion on washing machines AND a discussion on the role of religion in sports posters AND a discussion on gardening? All the other groups are too narrow.

I was just telling my husband that the reason I stay on this site (youngest d is a college senior) is that the discussions tend to be intelligent and interesting. And as dmd77 said, the discussions are all over the place in terms of topics. I learn so much! I have also gotten great recipes and sales tips. I'll probably be on here for many more years.

I wandered into the music major forum completely by accident about 3 years back while helping son do some MM grad program background research.
In the spirit of cooperation I found on the board there, I ended up hanging around and sharing what little music discipline knowledge I possess.
I have been known to contribute a bit to "how to" and cooking threads.
I'm also not one to pass up a chance at a good pun, a play on words, or threads involving aquatic deities. |

Why do I keep coming back?
Because most everyone here is witty, bright and about my age?

I was another convert from the PR board - came on over when DD (graduated college May '08) was a high school junior and had high PSAT scores, and I wanted to know what the state cut-offs were. That was, ummmmm.... 7 or so years ago.. DS is now a junior in college, but I'll probably still be here for the next twenty years or so. I love the vacuum cleaner advice, recipes, chit-chatting, and hearing about all the cool things kids are doing.

Where else can you talk "is this too young" fashion, roombas, care packages, FAFSA, study abroad, LAC vs honors vs HYMPS (and have everyone else understand the acronyms...)

I also started when looking for the NMSF cutoff score. A friend told me this is the place to look. Then I was hooked and it helped a great deal during the college search and beyond.
Slowly though, I gravitated to the Parent Cafe and have been stuck here for a few years. I read this a lot (at night at home) and there is always something of interest to me. And when I've had to find out info quickly on something I know nothing about (e.g., cell phone use abroad) I post and in no time, there are knowledgeable people responding.

I fell upon this forum from another site when my oldest was I just starting to think about colleges, maybe 2004 or 2005. I was looking for potential colleges and just stayed. I, too, post most early in the morning and at night...I also admit I'm prone to logging on during very long conference calls. After S2 makes his decision this spring, I've got one more in the wings to go so I imagine I'll be around for awhile. I so enjoy all the posters and all the different perspectives. There is always some interesting discussion going either in the parent forums, financial forum or right here in the Cafe.
