skittles, because I don't like them! We will have 200-400 come by, depending on the weather. Ours is a safe neighborhood, so we have vans full of kids from other areas, which is fine with me.

Full size Hershey and KitKat Bars. We buy a lot as we get a lot of trick or treaters. I am hoping tonight's rain doesn't deter them because I do not need to have all this candy in the house calling my name

The Crunch bars, Snickers and Butterfinger bars sold at Costco. We probably get around 100 kids and it really doesn't cost all that much. What's left over I give to my kids. I just texted them and asked which they like best. Instant response from all three: Crunch bars. So I'll give those out last.

When I was a kid there was a family in our neighborhood who had donuts and cider on their screened porch for everyone during trick or treating. A bit warmer climate than my current Minnesota location, unfortunately, so I have never been able to try it here. Butterfingers and peanut butter cups at my house tonight. And I am making banana-nut brownies for church, so maybe those for the parents I know

We have a couple of mixed bags. There's something new called Take 5 in one of them which is really tasty - chocolate, pretzel and caramel. I always get tootsie rolls because S2 likes them. Our old neighborhood got waves and waves of kids starting with the itty bitties at four on till nine or ten at night when we'd get the teens. Now we are in a funny cul de sac on the wrong side of a busy street and we get very few. I miss seeing all the kids. I'm sure my husband will be taking a lot of candy to the lab on Monday.

We have a tradition of always giving out fullsize candy bars. Bought 2 different boxes of 30 from Costco (had a coupon for one of them) and somehow managed to keep them in the house without touching them. Then I realized that Halloween was on the weekend and thought we'd probably get more kids, so I panicked and went out and bought a bag of 50 assorted snack size candys. But alas, its kinda wet and dreary and cold today, so we might not get the turnout we expect. So I opened the bag of snacksize candy. Gee, where did all the Almond Joys go???

I am wearing my FL Gators shirt and cheering loudly . GO Gators!!!!!!!!!!!! (This is dangerous here, "deep in enemy territory", as our fair city is referred to by the alums)

My friend thinks that turnout might be down here because it's the weekend so maybe more kids will be at parties and because the UT game starts at 7. I expect heavy traffic from 6:30-7 and at halftime!

Is there as official "start" time on a weekend? Seems like 7:30 or so on weekdays. And when do you turn out the light and stop answering the door? (I get nervous after about 8:00 or 8:30).

P.S. Added bags of Snyder's pretzels to the usual suspects.

New wrinkle tonight: lots of PARENTS semi-in-costume saying "trick or treat" and holding out bags. Just had a group of kids with mom and grandma (obviously grandma: older than I am) come by. All wanted candy. (I don't know any of them.)

Shrinkwrap- around here (Michigan) it starts at 5 with the really little ones. And it is already pretty cold.

Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I make up little goodie bags. This year each has a few mini chocolate candy bars and a mini M&M bag, a piece of "body part" candy (delightfully gross), some Halloween stickers, a plastic spider ring, a lollipop, a little pack of Nickelodeon candy and a Twizzler. Very much geared toward the younger set, but I think that's who the evening is for, so if teenagers are they're disappointed with the loot, I don't much care.

I stopped at the grocery store tonight and the Halloween section was empty, except for the display of mini-Snickers. I guess the peanut allergy thing is really affecting purchases.

^That reminds me that when my kids where younger, I shopped almost exclusivity at "Oriental Trading Company" and rarely gave out candy....

What kinds of costumes have you seen today? We've seen cowboys, scary-manic clowns, a couple of Buzz Light Years, a scarecrow (even had two stuffed blackbirds attached to his straw hat), wonder woman, a policeman, a firefighter, an astronaut, Star Wars characters, Hagrid from Harry Potter, a few princesses, a cow, a dalmatian, and girl pirates and boy pirates.

Packs of Amos Choc Chip mini cookies (bought at BJ's). Sadly, husband also bought choc. candy, AND OPENED THE BAG LAST MONDAY! Totally killed my candy resisting willpower.
