We have laminate "wood" floors in our basement due to moisture concerns and are happy with the results. They are texturized which would help in your case with slipperyness. However, we also have real wood in our kitchen with no negative results.

I love my laminate kitchen floor. We installed it ourselves, it still looks great even tho we've had one water flood, and I'd get it again. Pay for the good quality to avoid slipperyness. You could always replace it before you move. I would think that would be the cheapest stuff to replace vrs. tile, hardwood, etc.

Actually the wood floor is cheaper than the laminate. I guess because the laminate has to be manufactured, it cost more to produce. If I need to replace any or all if we were to have water damage, wood would still be the way to go.

Then go for the wood! One decision less to make. Order some extra, just in case soemthing needs to be replaced. What kind of wood is it? The new seals are suppose to be excellent.

I currently have oak, so we will go with the same. I have a honey color stain on my floor now, but we are looking to go darker.

I am excited about going with wood, but am not excited with the sanding! At least they now have the dustless sanders, although I know it isn't totally dust free. At least maybe I won't find sand particles a year later in a cabinet!! And if I think the laundry room sanding will be bad, just wait until we redo the entire main level :-0 I swore the last time we had to refinish a part of the house that I would NEVER do it again; well I guess I should have said never. I guess I didn't expect to still be in this house 15 years later.

You can put laundry machines on these: FloodSaver and/or use one of these FloodStopper by FirstSmart Sensor, official website and then worry less about floor choices.
