Are you looking at conventional mattresses? Or are you considering air filled, latex, memory foam?

we have a Memory Foam Mattress | Memory Foam Mattresses | Memory Foam Reviews mattress that we like; like memory foam, made in america, fairly cheap, shipped vacuum packed to your door, and it doesn't smell bad with that toxic smell the costco and chinese made ones do. Search this forum for the old mattress threads - it's been covered before

We have the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Pedic - Mattresses, Pillows, Sleep Systems- Welcome to Bed., and it's the best mattress I've ever had. However, if you like to keep your home at 67F and below, then you might not like the mattress. The cooler it is, the cooler the mattress becomes, and it tends to stiffen. It will soften and warm up with body heat, but you might not like the feeling of a cool stiff mattress as it warms up.

We purchased it some time ago. At that time, there were claims that other memory foam mattresses were just as good and cost less. You should investigate this. Since we made the purchase, memory foam mattresses have gained popularity so more information on comparability should be available.

I've had a Tempur-pedic for 5 years and LOVE it. H's idea, not mine. I thought it felt weird at first, but got used to it in one night. I have bad joints/back and it is the best thing for me. (I keep my house cool at night in winter and I haven't noticed stiffness).
Whenever I travel, I always love to come home to my bed!

Another happy Tempurpedic user here. Our house temperature is set up to drop to 64 degrees at night, and we love it! Our mattress is 8 years old (or is it even older?) and still feels the same as it felt on the day we bought it. It survived a lot of rough treatment (D jumping, kitten peeing (thank you, Billy for Oxyclean!) and two old(er) people being, err, frisky). When H comes back home after his stays at Sheratons etc., the first thing he says after stretching his body on the bed is "There is no place like home!"

I have a question on the Temperpedics. There are many different ones these days ranging from classic to ones with extra foam on top. Which exact models are the best? Does anyone know what that one is called?

I just bought a Sealy at Carsons. The best thing to do is to go to a mattress store and try them out. Pick which one is comfortable for you.

We are using a natural latex mattress (the whole thing is made of 2 kinds of latex) and liking it very much. Took 2-3 nights to get used to it, but it is the best mattress we have ever had.

I have the opposite problem with my memory foam mattress--it isn't that it stiffens when the house is cold--it's that it holds in body heat so in the summer I have to run the ac all the time or I get too hot at night. My husband loathes it for that reason, because he tends to be hot anyway. I like it more in the winter. It feels kind of comfy and cozy, but he says it's not supportive/firm enough and it hurts his back. Wé're in the market for a replacement.

I highly suggest you go to a mattress store and actually lay on the foam mattress for at-least 45 minutes, bring your normal pillow and see how it is. Some people love them, others buy and regret them.

Also know that they smell horrible and there is some thought that Nasa dropped the visco elastic foam due to toxicity.
