Well, some of the people are just lucky from the weight management point of view. My DW is probably below her high school weight. She eats so much more than I do and does zero physical exercise.
She has been constantly giving me "tips" on losing weight. Most of them don't make senses at all.
The take away, just because you are thin does not mean what you did/do are great for weight management.

Dad II, I think the take away is that what works for one person isn't necessarily what works for another.

Gallery showing was good. Nice turnout, including some of the veterans whose portraits we painted. (The show was a mix of portraits done by our art association of soldiers on their way to World War 2, and portraits painted this year of current enlisted men and local veterans.
The food was remarkably healthy - grilled vegetables, fruit on a stick, mini-quiches, fruit on a stick with yogurt sauce and water infused with real fruit to drink. On the less healthy side miniquiches, good fresh bread and mini red velvet cupcakes.
I love breakfast, but when I had no bread at all I really, really felt deprived so now my usual is one egg, some times one slice of bacon, and either half an English muffin or half a mini bagel with a little jam or cream cheese. It's 300-350 calories depending on just what combo I'm having.

OK, I finally sat down and planned out the two workouts for PHASE 3 of New Rules of Lifting for Life. Today was the first time through the first workout:
WARMUP: same one I've been doing for months now
CORE: stability ball mountain climbers
POWER: DB jump squats
Then, two circuits, 12 reps per exercise: Single Leg Deadlift
Alternating DB bench press Walking lunges (DB in each hand)
Chin ups (as many as I can)
Combo - DB curl, squat, press
--------------------------
A lot of these are old favs that I haven't done in a while. Big surprise to see gains on the stability ball mountain climbers. I am much stronger, more stable in the hips now and that exercise is all about stabilizing on one leg. Still gets the abs burning by the end of 10 reps per leg.
A couple of them kicked my butt. I've been doing bodyweight walking lunges, but this was the first time I've done them with weight. Wow, that will get heart rate up and the legs burning.
The curl, squat, press is really tough for 12 reps. Can't use a ton of weight, but it is really good for getting gassed.

I was actually surprised and quite happy when I stepped on the scale today. It was the first time in probably two months since I've gotten on the scale. I had 10 weeks where it was hard for me to get into the gym due to work and I eat awful. But much to my surprise I didn't gain any weight. Now, I can't say that I'm at a comfortable weight, but I was glad to know it didn't go up like I kind of expected...
Workout today consisted of returning Pilates Reformers to their proper offices.

| That's always a big relief. Now, we gotta get you back the gym. Speaking of workouts, it's a shame they won't let you carry Pilates instructors around rather than Pilates Reformers! Probably be a lot easier....
Something got me in today's workout. My legs are already sore. I'm guessing the walking lunges, although the first time around the block with single leg deadlifts in quite a while could be the culprit, too. I was really good. I only fell over once in each set!

Now that football season is over, I have been better about getting into the gym. Last week I went 4 or 5 times I think. Then I was in on Sunday and Monday this week so far.

I've been slacking off a little, too. Taking a few extra "rest days" and not getting on the Airdyne for a long while.
I'm going to blast through the final phase of NROL4LIFE and start the New Year with a second shot at iPod nazi's killer core training program along with some "heavy" (for me) low rep strength training. Walk/jog will get replaced with Airdyne and more "metabolic intervals" indoors.

Why do treadmills have mph (speed) instead of mpm (pace)?
I joined the Y and met my trainer this morning; she seems to be just what I need. (We emailed a fair bit so she had a pretty good idea of what I was looking for.) Mostly bodyweight exercises and other things that I could eventually do at home. We did two circuits; I felt like I could have done another but I'll see how I feel tomorrow.
Tomorrow I will try to go to the track and see what kind of running shape I'm in. (My other goal for today is to limit myself to two glasses of wine this evening. )
Is there a time of day when one should weigh oneself? I have never had to bother before.

I don't know why but it's good mental exercise to compute the latter from the former.

| Mine has both, but mine is a very basic Precor model without too many bells and whistles. It is possible that on fancier models the pace number is simply buried somewhere in the maze of buttons that need to be pushed for the number to be displayed.

I think some of those workout machines probably offer up coffee or tea if you manage to press enough buttons! I clearly have a ways to go before mastering "advanced exercise apparatus controls", that is for sure, lol. Maybe that's why I like running outside so much. |

| If you want the most consistent (and encouraging) results, weigh yourself first thing in the morning. Get up, go to the bathroom, and when, you take your PJs off, hop on the scale.

What idad said - it is the most foolproof method.
I'm back home, and it looks like I picked up a cold bug somewhere en route, so there will be lots of tea with honey and lemon for me tonight instead of running. |
