I haven't read throught this whole thread, and have not followed his/her saga. To me the big red flag is the fact that his dad would need to wait for the IRS check in order to make the 300 deposit when his parents are on the hook for 8000/year. Maybe it has been addressed already...but OP is going to take out 30000 in loans, do the parents have good enough credit to co-sign for those loans.

My parents do not have to cosign any loans, and we have already previously discussed that issue earlier in the thread. I'm going to read now, but I'll update this thread once the deposit has been made.

Hey,oldfort, You're preaching to the choir here on this. Lots of these issues, potential red flags, have been brought up already,ad nauseum I might add!

Note to EC: use your "ignore" feature.

The parents who continually argue with you and then tell you that you are "blaming others" when you try to respond to them or defend yourself are just trying to provoke you and prolong the argument. On the internet, that's called "troll"; in real life, that pattern of arguing is a form of verbal & emotional abuse. There is nothing you could say to please them -- their goal is simply to use anything you write as a further way to attack and humiliate you.

Your SAT score are totally irrelevant because you have already been accepted at 13 colleges with merit and need-base aid at all. Your choices have already been vindicated -- you did not need to study for the test as you had other options. You don't have to justify the choices you made about the SAT because you already have been proven to be right.

Same story with the deposit. There is no need whatsoever to make the deposit before it is due and -0- chance that May 1st will roll around and you will forget to remind your parents to make the deposit -- so they are just harping on that as one other way to provoke you. You commented that you were frustrated and having a hard time concentrating at school, so they are trying to make sure that next week is as hard for you as this week.

They use the provocation as a means of eliciting more information from you, and then turn around and use that information as a way of trying to further attack or humiliate you.

You have been very courteous over time and have refrained from attacking people or calling names.

Please be careful about how much personal information you disclose online. You are not obligated to explain your personal finances. Your parents' decisions about managing their finances are nobody else's business. It made sense to explain the financial situation when you wanted help with financial aid, but that time has passed. You can show respect for yourself and respect for your parents' privacy by refraining from posting any more information about personal finances.

You asked for help deciding whether to go to Wheaton or Knox. Now you have made the decision and do not need any more input. I think you have made the right choice, based on what I know about you.

I would suggest that if you have other questions or concerns, post over on the Knox thread where you might be able to get answers from other Knox students, parents & alums.

Suggesting early_college can potentially circumvent the deposit rules seems very risky.
I didn't suggest that.

I told him to ignore the trolls on this thread who are trying to manipulate him and his parents by playing on his anxieties about money. The deposit is due on May 1st, not before. If there are unforeseen circumstances that somehow stand in the way of the deposit being credited as of that day, he will have a way to protect himself and rectify that.

And there is nothing whatsoever on the Knox web site that says the "I am Knox" card needs to be received by (as opposed to mailed by) May 1. I'm a lawyer and I would interpret the language on the card to require mailing by the due date, not receipt.

I think calmom and EC should just PM each other.

Prospective Students | Knox College

^Calmom, go to the above link and look at the right side of the page. Enrollment deposit deadline is May 1st. Do you really want this kid to chance your interpretation that the deposit does not have to be in hand by May 1st? It is not worth the risk.

No, I'd call them enablers.
Yes, we've "enabled" EC to realize his dream of getting away from Georgia and attending a well-respected, private LAC that is a great fit for his talent and interests. I think the deal was sealed when Knox posted the "Holocaust in Film & Theater" class.

I must say that the level of sour grapes on this thread may have hit an all-time CC high.
Yes, and the sour grapes are coming wholly from the posters who have been expecting a bad outcome for EC all along and are disappointed that they can't say "I told you so". They told him he wouldn't be accepted to the colleges he applied for and they told him that he wouldn't get enough financial aid and now they are telling him that he'll lose his spot if he doesn't pay the deposit 10 days in advance and that his parents won't be able to afford the cost of his airfare and he'll be miserable at any college he chooses anyway. Sour grapes indeed.

No one has said that he needs to pay the deposit 10 days in advance. We are saying that the deposit should be made in a timely fashion so it is in Knox's hands by May 1st.

Wow, I have not read cc all day and I see so many new posts!

E_C, I strongly suggest that you get the deposit in on time. Congratulations on your decision!

Was Sarah Lawrence SAT optional back when your son went for 2 years, calmom? I don't recall it being that far back, and would have thought he would have had to have had good scores. Not sure why you are minimizing that.

Calmom knows I'll have the deposit by May 1st. She was just saying that it won't be a big deal if it's a couple days late. I am going to ask to close this thread because it has gotten out of hand. I will post on the Knox forum once the deposit has been made! I would like to thank those who have supported me throughout this process. I would also like to thank everyone for their advice, well that's mainly to those who were nice at least

EC, you've had everything submitted on time during this entire process. Bravo! Keep it up and make sure the deposit is in Knox's hand by May 1st. Doing it online will save you the travel time via old fashioned snail mail.

Order yourself the Knox Sweatshirt and forge ahead.
