Congrats to your daughter, OP.
| That's congrats to your son, isn't it? Or are we congratulating the party-thrower for declaring victory during the 7th inning of the game?
My son managed to completely avoid the artificial competition with his classmates. He graduated high school in 3 years and was ranked #1 in both the junior and senior classes yet was not eligible to be valedictorian because that was reserved for 4-year students. He was thrilled to not have to give the valedictorian speech and his #2 and #3-ranked companions from his junior class were happy to see their rank bumped up at the end of junior year when he graduated.

Yes it was to the son...I think it is crazy that we would celebrate others' failures and I remembered your story well.

Kelowna, I think a couple of these posts have been attempts at humor. I don't think they were meant to be mean.

I also think ClassicRockerDad was kidding around. I remember many of his posts in the past were funny.

Wow, can't believe anybody would do something like this.
For other families fretting over Val/Sal, you should know that at our hs some of the very best students didn't quite make it into the top 5%. They had mostly As, but many of them were in unweighted music etc electives. They still fared well in college acceptances. One in particular had an Ivy acceptance (or maybe more than one) plus some impressive national awards.

Rankings are out now and DS is #1, despite all....should I throw a party now and invite the mom in question? Just kidding, but thought you would like to know how it all ended up...

did you even read this thread or are you coming here to spit on me just based on my today's post?
| Whoa, I was just kidding around, as were you. I found your story about someone throwing a party over this trivia to be absurdly funny, like I thought I'd seen everything.
No offense intended, really, and sorry if you didn't find my post funny. My bad.

This lady is such a jerk! I hope your son beats the girl out and gets Valedictorian. Then you can throw an "I still beat *girls name* for Valedictorian even with a B" party.

a C is fine
a B is better
and an A does not guarantee success
These are the words of my grandfather.

@ ClassicRockerDad - apologies accepted and no, I didn't find your post funny, obviously.
English is my second language so maybe I am reading too much into it
The whole idea of this thread and my posting here is to share with you something that I thought happened in movies only, not in the real world. But I guess those screenwriters do take their ideas from somewhere...

All through 9th and 10th DS was ranked first then after grades came out after 1st semester junior year (DS earned a 4.792 on a 4.0 scale) he dropped to 2nd. He thought it must be some kind of error, the next day he came home and told me that the other student had figured out how many AP online math and science courses he would have to take to surpass DS.
| The mom of the val for my daughter's high school class was on the school board and had access to the computerized weighted GPAs to be able to figure out how many online courses her own daughter had to take to come out #1.
However, to "beat" the OP, I still remember the Texas cheerleader murder...a tiny bit more competitive than throwing a party for a rival's "B". Just my opinion, of course.

This is among the many reasons more and more schools are doing away with class rank.

Wonder if the mom/party-thrower happens to read cc. She might see how petty this looks...
