With 1940 on SAT and 5.0 GPA on an IB Curriculum - Colleges?

My son is a well rounded student: he has been on the student body, president/founder of Math Tutoring Club, volunteer in all type of school activities, varsity football player, varsity soccer player - all while holding a 5.0 GPA in the rigorous IB programme.

He has studied and taken three SAT tests and can't seem to break the 2,000 mark - he is stuck at 1940 SAT scores. Would an Ivy League type of school even look at him? Should we focus on the Great Schools that would consider accepting him and disregard the Ivy League Route?

Thank you for your feedback?

Proud Father.

Is 5.0 a 4.0 on a 4 point scale? If so, yes, have him try the ACT and see what happens. Should help you finalize the list in the fall.

Unless he's recruitable at one of his sports a 1940 won't make it to an Ivy. Try the ACT. Also look at other schools because most Ivy apps are just chances. Here are some schools (some VERY GOOD) that don't consider scores: SAT/ACT Optional 4-Year Universities | FairTest

Some kids do better on the SAT but I agree with the others here - Both of my kids did considerably better on the ACT. Give it a try. It takes less time and there is less jumping around from subject to subject. (He should do a few dry runs of the science section - it is more about reading tables and figures than it is about scientific facts. He probably won't need much prep for the other sections.) U.S. colleges will gladly accept either one.
