Channels Television - Nigeria's Award Winning Television Station

He was apparently bullied by ignorant kids as a child. He graduated with at GPA of 3.98 in Neuroscience.

I find it hard to believe that no one in the history of Johns Hopkins has graduated with a 4.0. If so, kudos to him in a not easy major.

And, please, it's JohnS Hopkins.

Intriguing story. So are the comments. I especially related to why he would study mind/brain/behavior.

Not belittling his efforts at all...

But other articles suggest that he had the highest GPA in this years graduating class, and was the first black man to achieve that honor. Bit different than highest GPA 'ever' which was the impression I got from the cited article.

I tried to find something released by JHU about Ohuabunwa but couldn't. It seems a little weird that the claim of his GPA being record-breaking is referenced only in the title of the article.

As best I can gather:

He had the highest GPA of current year graduating class, and is the first black student to achieve that status.

Not anything JHU would put out a press release about or put on their website.

Again, he did well in a difficult major, but not really news.

Yeah, but it is still an amazing achievement to be able to say he graduated cum de laude from Johns Hopkins!

Well, in Nigeria it must be a big deal. A bigger deal than it is at Johns Hopkins.

@mom0809, It is a big deal!

First of all, he was able to graduate with a near perfect GPA considering that JHU is notorious for its grade deflation and cutthroat environment. Secondly, considering his background (being suddenly uprooted and starting over in a new country at the age of 13, attending middle school in the ghetto, being bullied and discriminated against by his peers), it is an even bigger deal.

Additionally, he will be going to Yale medical school! This guy's story is such is an inspiration.
