GPA of HS classes v. GPA on HS transcript

Our local school district requires that a student's high school transcript (and the GPA computed thereon) include any high school level courses taken in middle school.

D received a B in algebra in middle school (when she was 12!). This B appears on her HS transcript, which shows her UW GPA to be 3.75.

Her GPA based only on the classes she took in HS (ie, not including this B in middle school) is 3.81.

What GPA should she put on her Common App?

What is her "real" HS GPA?

Please note:

1. D is a recruited athlete and the difference between a 3.81 and 3.75 makes a huge difference of about 6 points in computing her Academic Index; and

2. We have spoke to guidance counselors, principals, her middle school teacher, and people at the school board, and we have consistently been told that there is no way to get he middle school grades off her HS transcript.

She should report what her school is going to report. Apparently, that's 3.75.

Her GPA is what is listed on her transcript. Hopefully, however, it is listed as a middle school class. Parents get all excited about kids taking "high school level" classes in middle school without realizing the ramifications of middle schoolers taking "high school level" classes. Your situation is a perfect example. Obviously she has gotten other B's or her GPA would be higher than a 3.8 without that one B.

Now the real question is, will a 3.7 vs a 3.8 make any real difference in the recruiting process, probably not. What were her ACT/SAT scores?
