S applied Regular Decision to all schools. Has only heard back from University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou for the searchers).

Mizzou: Accepted.

Merit Aid:
$2k Bright Flight
$2k Excellence Award (34 ACT but only a 3.6 unweighted GPA in a very tough school - figures)
$1700 college scholarship (Ag school since he declared a Biochem major)
Invited to apply for the $1750 Discovery Fellowship.
--------
$5700 w/o Fellowship
$7450 w/ Fellowship

I think USC offers NMF awards if you list it as your first choice. Almost all NMSF become finalists. I received my letter a couple of weeks ago. But most of the schools to which I have applied are need blind and I don't have those packages yet. My early admission school also does not announce its financial aid package until April 1.....I was offered scholarships if I applied to Texas A & M but it wasn't a school I wanted to attend so I didn't apply.

I'd like to follow up on an earlier post. This is our first time through the college admissions maze and I too would like to know others' experiences with asking for an increase in the merit award. I don't want to make this a bidding war and would certainly only do it for the school that ends up being our #1 choice, but have people had success with it? When *do* you approach admissions? (Or do you? My son will be playing a sport--is it appropriate to have a talk with the coach?) (BTW--we've only heard from OWU so far. $15k/year, which we were thrilled with until I started reading about all of the $20k, $22k, $25k, . . . awards.)
