D is an incoming freshman this fall, although we have some commitments on the 20th with family in the area. But it is great to have other CC parents to chat with online!

My friend went to Dickinson College for summer camp (CTY) and loved it (5 years of loving!). The food, she says, is what clinched her decision to apply to Dickinson when she went through the process last year. It's number 5 in best college food or something? Haha. The classrooms are great, and well-kept. I went there for CTY for 4 summers, too, and it's a great place. The town, Carlisle, is inviting and has a great charm to it. But I think she mentioned that Dickinson seems to be a place for extroverted people. Apparently a big part of grading is how much you talk during class. Wall flowers be warned?

Anyway, I'm at Dickinson right now visiting, and it's just as gorgeous as ever. Good luck to the class of 2012, and 2013 should really take a good look at Dickinson.

In 8-10 years, my wife and I plan to retire to a college town. Gotta be a good small college, a lot happening there, beautiful campus, scenic town, reasonable cost of living and real estate . . . Carlisle's on my shortlist.

One reason D picked Dickinson is because it was friendly. When she went to class (as she did on every campus visit), she said the students were really friendly. They greeted her before the prof entered the room, asked if she was visiting campus, and volunteered a lot of info about the school. She said that of the 14 schools (literally) where she attended classes, this was the only place that happened. She is a pretty outgoing, friendly kid, so it isn't like she isn't approachable. Regarding the food, I was completely won over by the coconut cake in the cafeteria (although D has informed me that, no, we will NOT be eating in the cafeteria when I come to visit, she will want to go out).

Dickinson parents - did your child do an individual interview or a forum? My D is doing a forum after the open house next week, since I wanted her to have that group interview experience in addition to some one on one interviews at other schools. Do you have any feedback?? PM me since I don't want to hijack the thread - good luck with your move-ins!!!
