ConnectEdu.net

Anyone's schools using the ConnectEdu.net website for college planning? S came home w/logon procedure today. It is mandatory at the HS, and in it's first year of use. Other than online transcript request, can't see anything as far as college planning not available elsewhere on the web. Also, site has Facebook logon (probably how the site is financed) and email link to every student currently enrolled in the school. Absolutely don't see the need for those on a personal college planning site.

I guess the "old fogey" in me is showing in not accepting this new service. Seems like more distractions for the students rather than a helpful site.

Any experience w/this site? Or any thoughts on it?

We had "Family Connection powered by Naviance". What I found very helpful about it was that it had the stats of applications and acceptances from our hs for the past several years. Your child's stats were plotted along with all others that had applied with info as to whether they were accepted, rejected or deferred. And it also broke it down into ED applicants and RD applicants. Although you have to be careful how you interpret it (like when you see a plot with two peaks - one for athletic tips, the other for academic applicants), it was very helpful in seeing how my kid fit in with the others that applied successfully to each school of interest.

My son's high school also had this program under the old name of Naviance. I found it extremely helpful. One of the most useful features was a graph of acceptances for each college/university. This graph include a plot where my son fit in comparing him to the other students from our high school that were accepted. It helped narrow down the search for us. This program also lists the number of acceptances for the past few years and information on lowest accepted GPA and percentage of students that were admitted under ED, EA and RD and their respective GPA/SAT scores.

S' counselor told me today that the colleges fund the program to facilitate the electronic transmission of transcripts and letters of rec. Primary reason for now using this program. College search function pretty much same as collegeboard, princeton review, etc. Scattergrams will be available down the road, but not available yet. So, I guess the program is evolving at my S high school.

Pretty soon everything involved in everyday living will be online, it almost is now.....
