| Crazy year for UC admissions/rejections
I've been spending time in all of the UC forums since my daughter applied to 6 UC's--no rejections yet, fortunately--but I've been amazed/disheartened by the stats of students rejected from Santa Cruz & Davis. Admissions for these schools have traditionally been pretty straight-forward and this year the rules seem to have changed, big-time! I don't know how much of this is resulting from the current budget crisis and how much is due to the enormous numbers of applicants. I feel very sorry for some of these students, and it won't be any prettier next year. Furthermore, who's to say how much the budget crisis will affect the CSU system. |

| I don't know if you are looking for a response, but I am noticing the same thing. My D also applied to 6 ,and so far she taking lots of "spots", while I too am watching these boards and wondering whats going on.

| I applied to four UC's and have been seeing the same thing.
It's so weird that some of them are accepting people with 1600's and rejecting people with 2200's. There have also been weird patterns with acceptances. One of my friends was rejected from Davis, but got into UCSD.
Looking back, I'm starting to feel like it's a miracle I got into these schools, whereas before I thought a lot of them were more or less givens if you had high enough stats. | |

| Shrinkrap, I guess I was hoping that someone wiser and more knowledgeable in the ways of college admissions than me would shed some light on the situation. You have to feel sorry for some of these students and hope that they do have other options. The landscape has changed so much since November 30 when these students applied. | |

| I don't think this is just USC schools, our guidance department had a district wide (3 high schools) sort of emergency meeting this week. Saying the kids that "should be shoo ins" for the schools they applied to, are NOT getting in this year and trying to figure out what the h... is going on. | |

| UCSC was strange indeed. They accepted 20,000 and rejected 7,000.
I was among the unlucky 7,000, I am OOS, but had a 2340 SAT score and went to two of the top prep schools in the country. It was a school I applied to on a whim and it was supposed to be a safety. | |

| About 7500 CA HS teachers received laid off notice by yesterday because of CA budget cut. I think the budget cut affects the admission too. My niece's counselor told her that SDSU only accepted 7000 students out of 61000 applications.

| It wasn't a safety for an out-of-stater....the only possible UC "safety" for any out of stater is the Merced campus. | |

| I worked with a couple of Students who were applying to UCLA and Berk from OOS at the school where I teach. I told them to give it their best shot but don't expect to get in and don't expect any money for OOS.
I think there are better options elsewhere for OOS students. One kid really had his hopes up. I hope he makes it but ....... | |

| This is clearly just a misunderstanding. SCSU *enrolls* about 7000 each year. To yield that many, they admit about 4x that, since their yield rate historically hovers around 25%. | |

| couldn't possibly be that people are applying to 6 or more schools, with only real interest in 3-4, if that many
I know kids that applied to almost all...why? that is obscene....
I have also read threads where people applied to UCs and then said, I really had no intention of going there anyway
Why do people bother appliying to any school that they don't like? | |

| I could be wrong about 7000. This could be enrollment number. But the 61000 is correct. And the numbers are for both transfer and freshmen.
