What???? No change needed for machines??? I guess that is technology for ya. . Hmmm......So could the rolls of quarters be used to go into the ID/debit card account, or what could we substitute for that part of the gift???
Anon, I KNOW!!! But check with the school--they still may be "old fashioned" like us! One of the cute things our small HS does for the seniors is assemble a "survival kit" for each student--and this includes a laminated "laundry instruction" sheet that they hole-punch and affix to a laundry bag.
You can order small single-use packets of laundry soap. Another thing we did (after I found this great website where you can order mini sizes of stuff) was order a case of single-serving packets of ranch dressing for my son, who puts ranch on everything. He was getting a laptop for his big gift (later in the summer) so I wrapped up the ranch dressing packets--and he assures me they're all gone!
scout 59: My D is getting a quilt with all of her memorable HS tee shirts (sports, student council, Big Game, etc)....I don't sew.....using T-shirt Quilt - Campus Quilt Co. D is getting a Gift Card from them...because she wants to wait for Grad night shirt to be included....
What about extension cords for the survival kit? I loved someone's suggestion of picture-hanging equipment, and quarters with laundry stuff + laundry directions are great ideas too!.........I still can't believe our daughter is going! : (
For kids of people with not so much cash, I would go with the tool kits and dorm stuff. Sheets, towels, etc cost a bunch and can add up fast. You can help out, by suggesting this sort of stuff. But find out what they need/want. Sheets can be tricky depending on the bed type (long vs regular).
I'm making my daughter a t-shirt quilt. I'm also have a small digital photo frame - I'm getting a lot of local pictures and family & friends and loading it. I like the cookie postcard idea.
For ds's friends, I bought Itunes gift cards. Right now Costco is selling them in packs of 4 - $15 cards for about $56. Then you can give differing numbers of them to different people (some may get 2, some 3). Good news- they are unisex! Can give to boys or girls!
mammal,
At least you get to go to graduation I just put my H on the plane to Houston. He'll film s#1's college graduation Saturday while I attend S#2's HS graduation. Mixed blessings....
