ID Tech Camps

Has anyone's child worked as a counselor at these camps? What was their experience? They seem very unorganized.

No, but my son attended one. For the amount of money we paid, I was extremely disappointed. My son enjoyed it and it would have been fine for a $25 city rec program camp, but not worth the $$$$.

Instructors fell asleep, kept kids outside on a really hot day with no liquids available, extremely pointless first day just trying to sort out who should be where, forgot a girl outside under a tree and went in to "class" (that term is a joke). She was disoriented and left the campus, crying. Let kids watch tv for a day. That was just the first 3 days. Then I pulled her out. They promised to return my money after the teacher went to sleep in class. Never received a penny. It was 9 years ago and I forgot about it. I needed to get angry about something today. Thanks for the reminder. I've been forgetting to tell people NOT to send their kids to this camp.

Don't send kids to this camp and don't let your kids work for this miserable group. Future employers will think they are losers. And if anyone from ID Tech is reading this, send me a pm. I'll tell you a lot more - maybe what I really think.

My son went last year at Carnegie Mellon. He had a great time, but it is VERY pricey. We did not experience any of the instructor problems and he did seem to spend most of his class time designing video games.

Has anyone worked with this company? They are in Campbell California. They hire a lot of college students every summer.

Okay, I went overboard. Sorry. My experience was miserable and several other people had bad experiences with them that summer. The worst part was how disappointed my daughter was after looking forward to the camp for months. I would hope they have improved. My advice is to vet them carefully.

My daughter had a very disappointing experience with ID Tech camp last summer at the Stanford site.
Very chaotic first day, classroom was very hot and she was miserable.

My son went to the Stanford ID Tech camp for a couple of summers. He loved the camps, but they were pretty relaxed (= just a bit disorganized). For some kids (and parents) that's ok, but those who like more structure might be disappointed. They're also very expensive.

An alternative is Cybercamps. They have a counselor in training program and hire older high school kids as counselors. My son went there for a couple of weeks during the same summers as ID Tech, and then went one more summer to be a CIT.

My son went to Cybercamps for two summers in two different locations and enjoyed both of them - this was about 6 and 7 years ago.
