"pwned" is just slang kids use to mean that they "beat" someone - sometimes they say "I pwned you" or "I owned you," but it's really the same thing.
Thanks for clarifying what DD/DS mean. But now that I know what they actually stand for, I kind of hate them. If my mom or dad posted on here and refered to me as their "Dear Daughter" I'd probably be ****ed. it sounds too clingy and almost derogatory, like something you'd hear in the 1950s when women had no rights and were treated as objects.
That's my opinion, at least.

I come from the Service Academy forums, and I just somehow stumbled across this. I've never seen anyone over there use DS though [maybe once or twice]. Everyone always just uses S to refer to their son. (Ex. - I got to talk to my S this weekend, or "S had good news.."

FTW = for the win
ex. Firefox is so much better than Internet Explorer (IE). Firefox FTW!!!
COA = cost of attendance. refers to scholarships for the most part. includes tuition, board, food, sometimes transportation. varies per school.
also, as a "daughter," I have never liked the use of DD/DS. What's the point? We all know you care about your child simply because you made the effort to join this board on their behalf. Why not just use D/S? (I agree with troof)

| Seven Sisters
You messed up the seven sisters.
Radcliffe(sorry if I misspelled), Mt. Holyoke, Smith, Wellesley, Vassar, Barnard and Bryn Mawr.
Now a historical reference b/c Radcliffe officially part of Harvard and no longer degree granting, Vasser is co-ed. The rest are still single sex and riding high!

Triguena-
Yes-- efforts have been made in this thread as far back as June of '05 (post #96) and April of '07 (post #177) to list correctly the 7 sisters. And for the record, its Vassar (not Vasser) |

^^^ Actually... for those of us who have been around the block here for quite a while, and have a coupla thousand posts (not counting the posts in the cafes), saving the extra keystrokes by saying S1 or S2 DOES save a lot of time, in the long run. It adds up! Maybe I should just start calling my boys S1 and S2?? |

^hey, FYI, I am an old member, and I just abandoned my old sn (besides some other issues) and started this new one. Just to let you know.
Personally, I find it kind of morally irritating if I'd call my son/daughter S1 or D3! May be it's just me. But oh, well.

morally irritating??? hahahaha. Why is this any different than any other abbreviations? U of "you", CC'er for "college confidential poster", FYI, OP, "sn" for screen name, etc.

Re post #200 et al:
Another correction that needs to be made: these are WOMEN'S COLLEGES, not "girl's schools." Emma Willard or Miss Porter's is a girl's school.
That and calling female students "coeds" raises my blood pressure to unhealthy levels. |

How about NU? I saw it listed as a school with a good CS program in another posting. Thanks.
