CCC: California Community College
Particularly relevant because the UCs have an agreement with certain CCCs that offer guaranteed admission at junior year.
GTO: Guaranteed Transfer Option (the option offered to some freshman UC applicants to go to a CCC and transfer into the UC that offered this)
TAP: Transfer Agreement ? (the form/agreement you sign that allows you automatic acceptance from CCC to UC provided you finish a certain set of classes with a certain level of achievement)
IGETC: Intersegmental General Education Transfer Credit (The set of courses and agreements that the UCs and select CCCs have which means that if you complete the prescribed set of courses, you will have satisfied that UC's general education requirements.)

Thanks celebrian25
I haven't seen these yet (forgive me if I'm repeating):
YMMV = your mileage may vary
NTTAWWT = not that there's anything wrong with that (to quote Seinfeld )

on here USC always means university of southern california, and I don't think U. South Carolina is mentioned enough in real life or on cc for it to be a big issue
| Actually, I was reading a thread where they were talking about UNC- Chapel Hill vs Emory or something related thereto that they kept mentioning USC. I was baffled until I realized (or they spelled out) that they were referring to U of South Carolina. I suppose it is a regional thing, as I was reading about the Duke/UNC/ Davison/Emory stuff, as I am in the SE

I'm sure it comes up, I was saying in what I've encountered, there has never been any confusion (btw I live in Ohio).
Princeton is sometimes referred to as pton or p-ton. Dartmouth as dart, ohio state as tOSU (the ohio state university), KU is Kansas U., but it can be Kentucky or any other K-state (if any other's exist)

Good thing that U of Alabama, Arkansas, Alaska, Auburn, etc don't get talked about too much. I'd be totally lost.... AU? UofA? UAB? Also, I was in college in the '70's. Unfortunately, when we abbreviated our college name, (Vassar - VC) people thought we were referring to the VietCong!!
There was a very funny thread not too long ago where people were trying to see if they could decipher long abbreviations. It was pretty funny, and clever, but I haven't found it yet.. Stay tuned...

Sometimes UC = U of Chicago instead of U of California.
I prefer the use of UChicago.
ELC = Eligibility in the Local Context, which is related to U of Californiia admissions, where the top 4% of the graduating class at your local high school (California high schools only) receive special undergraduate admissions consideration.

AA = Affirmative Action
A topic that tends to get VERY HOT on these boards!
