| U Miami has a well respected music business major. If the girl in question has good stats she could qualify for merit $$ there. |

| I would need to do more research to make a good match here but will throw out some for the Music Management girl to at least look into and then see for herself as I have not had a chance to explore deeply enough....
(some would be safeties for her but that may mean merit aid)

OOPS....I did not count the "not too cold" criteria....sorry! But with such a specific type program that she wants, I think she needs to cast a wider net at this juncture and be pickier about the climate where the program is located once she has acceptances in hand. |

| Belmont is a popular one for some reason. I think Butler in Indiana is a great school. Visited it a couple of years ago and liked it very much. Highly regarded it seemed in Indy. Catawba and Milliken are schools known for musical theatre and other show biz stuff including music management. Of the Sunys, I think Oneanta and Potsdam have the major, and Fredonia has some good programs though not the major. U of Hartford, U of Charlest, USC, U of Pacifec, William Paterson, Maine at Farmington, St Joe's, Ohio Northern, DePaul, Berklee School, Loyola of New Orleans, Clarion in PA, Geneva, Lebanon valley, DePauw, Hofstra, Uof Evansville. I think Baruche in NYC has the major and I know Five Towns(?) has unique programs in music. |

| Christopher Newport's sudden popularity has made them much tougher to get into. Check the stats of this year's class when they are released. I was told average GPA is up to 3.8 this year, from 3.5 last year. Not sure if that is accurate but far fewer kids from our HS got in this year. They used to be a safety for VA students. Doesn't look so much like that now. |

| Thanks Soozie, great list! Singersmom, I think they're both in good territory GPA wise. But, overall, I am glad I didn't have to deal with VA as my instate school--tough crowd!!!! |

| A friend of my D was admitted into JMU's music industry program. She has joined a performance group for a year and is deferring admission. She was very impressed with the program when she visited. My D will be there in the fall majoring in voice. |

| Garland, I came this thread/information. Here was some information from Marny: Quote:
check out the book- "Schools that Rock" (or something like that). It's a college guide put out by Rolling stone magazine that gives info on different music programs and music scenes at different colleges.
you might want to look at some schools that are located near well known music industry locations.
Austin, Nashville, Memphis etc.
University of Memphis does have a program which focuses on the Music business and recording technology. My guess is that there are similar programs at many other schools.
sometimes the State U's are a good place to look too.
you may also want to check the music major thread to get more specific info. Good luck!

| I live right in the vicinity of Five Towns its on Long Island in New York. Its an interesting place that centers on music majors of all kinds, including music biz.
It does employ faculty connected to industry in New York City. Its a relatively new school and I'm not sure what its rep is in relation to other programs/colleges. Also be aware it has very limited dorm space and the apt rental market here on LI is outrageously expensive. |

| Music Business in Lowell, Ma One other school we looked at was UMass Lowell. Their program and facilities were quite nice. Even out of state tuition is more reasonable than some private schools. My son just graduated in the music industry program at Northeastern and is now job hunting. |
