So we're done....6 for 6. Final acceptance was Wake Forest which also had no money attached. So of the 6 2 had significant merit aid and the other 4 had nothing. Intersting. Glad to know we're done and will wait a few weeks to be sure that there really is no other merit aid coming. If not, the decision of U or Richmond with full tuition plus is an easy one for daughter and parents.

Well, 3 out of 16 with only 1 waitlist and tons and tons of rejections. What a wonderful year this has been. However we do beleive that you get accepted to the places where you belong. And we have a wonderful and totally unexpected college where things will flourish.

D will be an Earlham Quaker!! They were the first with an acceptance, following quickly by a generous merit scholarship, and today the aid package arrived. They are meeting our demonstrated need, and then some.

Now the question remains: What will a lifelong Californian think about a Midwestern winter? We'll find out!

For now, the relief is unbelievable.

Earlham is a GREAT school. My friend's daughter is there and is a very happy Californian in the midwest. Going to a different climate is part of the adventure. She loves the international diversity and Quaker values that inform campus life. Congratulations!

4Giggles, I hadn't looked at this thread for some time and your entry popped up. My son is also deciding between Cornell and UVA but for graduate school (architecture). This is going to be a tough, but very positive decision.

I've never visited either campus -- and won't be able to before decision time. Not that it matters, except that I'd like to have a visual reference. He went to Williams for undergrad so Cornell is familiar territory. He was in Charlottesville over the weekend and was very impressed with the beauty of the campus, and after six years in New England a temperate climate sounds mighty appealing.

In at 6 of 9 and 1 WL. She likes 4 of them.....plus the WL. Very hard choices as with 1 exception the FA is about the same and not terrific. The 1 terrific one is far away and although would be fine, she is leery of it. This weekend will be the big discussion!

mmaah, thanks for that confirmation. Earlham is a great fit for D precisely because of the Quaker ethos, and because of the intimate scale of the school. She's going to thrive, snow or no snow. She also values diversity, so it's good to hear of that. She's already found another Sacramento Quaker-to-be on Earlham's Facebook, so they can shiver together!

momrath- D visited UVA but has not been to Cornell. I have to say Charlottesville is great! She is really trying to focus on the programs, Environmental science and International economics.
I would imagine UVA would be a really nice change for S after Williams.

help:50k UC Berkeley vs 6k U of MN

it's hard to make dicision. My D is accepted by Berkeley with OOS $50.1K a year, no penney schoolership even we are not that rich almost half of our income. In state university of Minnesota offer her a lot of schoolership, we only need pay 5k. It's 45K difference a year. This 2 schools fighting in my mind everytime.

Just my opinion: While Berkeley may have prestige, when it comes down to it the university is a very large state school in a state with probably some of the most economic problems. I would never take out massive loans to go there (and I went there many many years ago). I suspect that your D will find whatever program she wants to study at U of Minn.

Just wanted to share for anyone who pained with me during EA when S1 was accepted and S2 was def, that s2 was also accepted on Tuesday so all is right with the world again. And for anyone keeping track of "twin" issues - every other school they both applied to gave them the same decision. They'll be choosing between Yale, Princeton and Duke probably. And for what it's worth- it really did keep S1 grounded and S2 working hard so I'd say NOW- it was for the best- but certainly the time in between offered some exciting challenges.

Congrats to everyone- and now it's time for me to sit back with my BL lime and watch them fly north for the winters!

dukebrown -> I would definitely call the Financial Aid depts of the colleges you mentioned and ask for help or suggestions, work-study opportunities, etc. It may come to naught, but why not try!

I have only been on this site for about a month & found it to be enormously informative. I've even read volumes about the schools we will respond "no" to. It all helps to make the best decision The suggestions & experiences of other parents has been very interesting. Read every thread that looks remotely interesting. You never know where some little gem of information will pop up!

Vassar vs. Carleton vs. Haverford

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been accepted into all three of these colleges but at the moment I am really confused about the college I should choose.......I would like to have a good social life in the college and though I have not yet decided what major I will take it will most probably be something from science....keeping these in mind could you please give your views which one among these colleges would be the best for me......
