NM, that is the dream field for a lot of guys I know. Is she a big sports fan? I remember many many years ago doing a rating agency site visit for the financing of a stadium for the Timberwolves. Every single decision maker at this huge table from the mayor to the investment banker to the bond counsel was female and then there were about forty guys arranged in an outer circle along the walls. It was just one of those moments. I think your D is going to get a chance to have some of those moments in her chosen field as well. Very cool.

She is a HUGE sports fan, her father's daughter. Was a multiple sport athlete and very good student. I think her biggest asset is her personality and ability to get along with anyone and be comfortable in any situation. Ha...remember when I said my girls were so different! I am just so proud of her and...can I say this???...relieved that she will have a job and be truly launched!!! Whew! |

NM--a job? a good job? in her field? before graduation? Wow!! Congratulations to your D1. I would be positively giddy!
#tm, I'm so sorry about your pup. I complain about my rescue mutt all the time, but would be lost without him. So sorry to hear you're feeling so sick, too. Hope the drugs kick in quickly.
I'm starting to feel achy and congested now. S & I are going to get t-shirts that say "I went to Parents' Weekend and all I got is this lousy flu." H was sick in early Spring, so we're hoping he's immune.

NM, it sounds like your D has the total package. You have every right to be proud. You should add your good news to the college senior thread and celebrate to your heart's delight. It just sounds perfect.
I have to admit, I still lack confidence sometimes in my own two guys. When my oldest does get a job, I will probably smoothly transition into worrying whether he can actually DO the job.

OK...so D2 just called. The 6 year old boy she babysits for at college has swine flu.....I was so hoping we'd avoid this! She is off to a clinic tonight as the university does not have any vaccine (she is in DC and they have had trouble getting it into the district - I read something about it somewhere) but anyhow.....crossing fingers that she can even GET the vaccine and if not...maybe can get it at the next clinic. Sigh.

I agree with the rental, but also know all too well taxi's point about the boots. So.. we'll see if it is possible for him to rent skis and he can bring his own boots. I grew up skiing but got really spoiled and now only ski when visiting my inlaws (they live in colorado mountain town). I therefore have rented for the past 20 years simply because I could always demo the best stuff out there. So.. I think I see a compromise in my future. And frankly, it gives me something to get him.
S's facebook status is: Fline Swu. He is not a good patient in the least, so ... I will maybe call him in the morning but at this point, I am going with the thinking that if he's updating his facebook he's not that sick.
Congrats NM on the employment status. That's absolutely fabulous.
Cake candles tokens of love... all well received. One down, two more to go.

Warning!!! Vent/rant ahead!
I love my girls...I really do...D2 is driving me CRAZY! This registration thing is driving me crazy! She is all set except for the stupid calc class. Coaches say no it runs 20 minutes in to practice time. She HAS to have it if she wants to transfer to a specific school. We talked about options. Either call transfer school and see if they would still consider her if she took it in summer school, drop that school for consideration or take the class, quit team, lose scholarship and have a semester worth of bills. I have been supportive but she has to make the calls, go back to coaches, whatever. Her fear of talking/asking/calling is killing me. Arrgghh!!!

Vent away, NM! That would make me crazy, too! I was on Facebook a minute ago and sent Son a nag message of 6 things he needs to do but hasn't.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is... begin. I'm just saying...
NMN - I think her best bet is to call the transfer school and ask. If she explains the money aspect (i.e., if I take this class, the domino effect will mean I lose my scholarship), I think they will at least try to be accommodating. They could either wave or allow her to take it in summer. And as I try to press upon my kids, the absolute worst thing that can happen in this case is a "No." If you don't ask, it's already a "no" so what's the down side?

Moda - love the fline swu. I agree it sounds like he is recovering. Hopefully D2 will get Tamiflu...the child is on it and recovering more than rapidly. Crosses fingers.
