The ACT Waiting Thread

I'm guessing alot of our rising seniors are testing today. Mine is. He really tried to prepare pretty well for this one. I'm SO hoping he can improve upon his last one just for his own personal satisfaction! I'm not even sure that a couple of points will help him merit wise, but certainly confidence wise.

Prayers and good thoughts going out to all those students testing today and all the parents rooting for them at home.

I will be glad when testing is done!

good luck to your son. mine is testing today too, hoping this is the last one. he just wants a point or 2 improvement if possible, pimarily for merit consideration. he really didnt get a chance to study as had satII last week and started an internship monday

D2 is taking the ACT for the first (and probably only) time today. She took the SAT in March, then again last week. She didn't do as well as expected on the first SAT, but felt better after the second. In any event, I think she's had it with testing...whatever she scores, we'll work with that.

Dropped DS off this AM and saw a huge number of test takers. best of luck to all.

All he needs is two more points. three will be nice but I am sure he will take two more with a big smile.

I was surprised at the amount when I dropped my daughter's off. A few years ago, my son said there were very few students and most were from private schools. Now there seemed to be a mix but and it seemed a lot from areas further away. Many were surprised from bits of conversation how quickly the ACT was filled this year.

Dropped mine off this morning and there were about 25 already in line at 7:45. This is her first time taking it but she has been doing well on the practice tests so I hope it carries over.

Good luck to everybody! The ACT's getting more popular now a days and it should because it's a much better test in my opinion than the SAT

Our testing center was full so my D's friend has to go across town. My D got extended time for this test and I hope it helps.

Waiting on my daughter too. She signed up for the ACT and the SAT on the same day but since she did well on the SATs doesn't really care about the ACTs anymore; I hope she does well anyway. I was nagging her all week to do practice tests and I'm sure you all know how well that goes over with a 17 year old. Yes, I'm quite popular here right now, lol.

LOL, i retook the english part of the test last week and was able to raise my original score (17) to a 21.

So no make up courses for me!

Mine just got in, said they started late (they always hate that) almost an hour,.They were more interested in getting something to eat and drink rather than talk now. They did observe, although it was at a very urban school, unlike the SAT, the ACT had mostly private school students(and very hovering parents) There was only a handful of minorities and they didn't see anyone from their school. I guess the ACT in our area is still not pushed very much in public schools. Privates though,have, at least for the last 4-5 years ago when my son was interested.

My son thought the test was overall harder than the April 4th. His scores was pretty good, but he was sure he could improve a little if he got to try again. From what I've heard that's unlikely, but I thought we'd try it!

Side question: Do kids get their driver's licenses later in some states? Our rising seniors have all been driving for at least a year. Here you can drive at 16. Not many kids here would need a ride to an ACT test.

I don't think some students get their licence at 16 for many reasons, money, insurance costs, not having an extra car, etc. I got mine, YEARS ago at 17, my son was 17 and my twins will be 17 and one "maybe" 18...she isn't that interested and knows it will be easier at 18. Some kids drive but only have 2 cars in the family and parents don't want it tied up for 4 hours. I used to drop my son off years ago at work when he was working 6 or more hours on weekends to free up one car. I've also heard a few parents complain with the economy the way it is, many of the teens aren't working and can't contribute to gas and insurance which is discouraging.
As far as my neck of the woods, I notice a lot of parents not just dropping off, but going in...why I don't know, they are shooed out soon enough, but maybe it is for support?
My daughters thought the science was a little easier (the last score was awful in that) and English was tedious, maybe they were too tired, but the passages seemed longer. I hope the math score goes up, not worried about the essay, but there is always September...

I guess you're right. Where I grew up the driving age was 15 and I was there on my birthday :-).

We have no public transportation to speak of in Texas, so our kids probably start to drive earlier. I have been VERY grateful that for 2 SATs and now 2 ACTs I wake up, ask if he needs anything and give him a few dollars for his 'lucky kolache' on the way to the high school.

Then I go back to SLEEP!!! Going IN with a kid to take the SAT should be its own level on the helicoptering exam. :-).
