Five letters of recommendation?

Hi!
I know that most colleges do not appreciate extra things to read, but I was wondering if anybody had some experience with sending extra letters of recommendations. I really don't want to bombard adcoms with a gargantuan amount of supplementary materials, but I really feel I need all these recs.

I switched schools this past year due to financial reasons, and I am now attending a public high school rather than the independent private school I had attended for the past 3 years. For my applications I have the two required teacher recs (from my junior year teachers at my past school), a college counselor rec (along with the school report) from my old school, and a college counselor rec/school report from my new school. Already that's four recommendations...

In addition to those, I am doing an arts supplement for 4-5 of my schools for theatre. I know that recommendations aren't required for most art supplements, but I have already asked my theatre teacher to write one for me. Is this a bad idea? Will colleges frown down upon all the extra reading? (I also have to write a short essay about the circumstances around my school switch... arrrghhh)

If any of you have any experience with this I would greatly appreciate your input!!

Thanks!

I think you're fine. Only your theater teacher is really extra.

I agree with mathmom. Sounds perfectly reasonable in the circumstances. I would definitely include the theater rec. (The meaningless one is the GC from your current school, but I suppose it is unavoidable.) The kids I know who fared the best in admissions ALL sent at least one, and sometimes 2, extra recs.

Yup. Send them all in. worse case scenerio, somebody won't read them all. under your circumstances, it makes sense to send in all five.

Thanks everyone!
I've heard all kinds of horror stories about sending in spare letters of rec, but apparently I'm fine! thanks!
