Maybe that teacher will retire and your daughter can re-start Spanish next year. She could study Spanish on-line--as someone said, your local library may offer free access to language-learning software, or your community college may offer a non-credit course on-line for a very reasonable price. She could get a handle on it over vacations, re-start the class at school next year, and still get in her two years of foreign language. (I've studied French and Spanish-- IMO, Spanish is easier.)

Atomom, The reason DD didn't start Spanish as a freshman was on advice from the special ed teachers, who thought said teacher was going to retire in one year and we should wait til soph year. Now I think she will never retire...

Sounds like a lot of the problem is the teacher. She took a whole point off for the sentence not having a period at the end?
