I've gotten two e-mails this week (son gives out my e-mail for college info) regarding College Week Live The Virtual College Fair
It's being billed as a virtual College Fair. Seems interesting but a little weird. It starts today and runs through Friday. Only a couple of colleges that my son is interested in are on the list.
wow, kathiep, what a mix of schools are on that list! Dartmouth, Yale, Wellesley plus dozens and dozens I've never heard of, even after spending 5 years on CC.
I have been on a few of those. The list is extremely varied, but if a school you are interested in participates, you get quick responses to your questions from the students and Adcom people live. Singing up likely generates even more mail and email from places your data is sold to.
They've been around for a while now and the vendor behind it is very assertive. We participated for one year (when it was free to the colleges) and scheduled our staff to take parts of a fair that went on for hours and hours. We talked to a handful of students.
A colleague at another school suspected that a few of the students in his "room" were bots, not real students.
It's an interesting concept, but it's so easy to get in touch with admission officers these days that the virtual college fair has never really taken hold.
