I don't think there is any chance that he would call and ask (17 yr old boy embarrassment issues) - and of course I can't. I suspect that ttparent may be right and that pushing them at this point could potentially push him on the wrong side of the fence.

why cant YOU call? not to be pushy or irate but just to ask, was it only the preferred app reg decision that was 2 weeks and not the ea decisions. just say you are confused as had hoped to hear early as it is your sons top choice. Admissions people really arent going to black mark your son because his mother called. and it would make you feel better

^^^ Why would a college want to admit someone who isn't mature enough to ask about his own application? I hardly think that having your mother call for you communicates that you're ready to go off to college and become an adult.

I have no idea if this applies to Tulane, but in other cases when a school puts a file up for review, it does mean the applicant is on the fence and not an automatic admit.

k4r3n2 i had to call an admission office for my son, he had a deadline for something that he had to know and could not call as the office was open during is school hours only, his lunch is only 30 minutes long but he tried and he was on hold the entire 30 minutes. i agonized over calling, and then felt totally stupid, as i apologized all over the place to the admissions person that it was me having to call, the admissions counselor reply was... "why shouldnt you call, it affects your son's decision and application, going to college is a family decision, and that is what we are here for, to help that process for both the student and family... call anytime." I dont think that reflected poorly on my son's maturity

Hrm. I had to ask my teachers a few times if I could step out to make a phone call when I had to reach an admissions office, but they were pretty forgiving and generally let me. I suppose your son's high school must be stricter than mine was.
I guess it's the job of the admissions officers to make both the parents and the students feel comfortable. I just know that I got far more favorable responses when I called for myself compared to my friends who had their parents call, but it's also possible that their parents were pushier than I was.
I guess northeastmom's son had the same experience that I did!

| I won't name the school, but my son called an admission's counselor when he had a question about his application. He did not reach her so he left a long detailed message. The admission's counselor returned the call, but my son was not home. She spoke with me instead. She told me that it was refreshing that an applicant called her. She told me how impressed she was with his maturity and how it is UNUSUAL when an applicant calls her. She said that normally she gets calls from the applicants' parents!

lol ttparent!!! i guess my point was, if her son wont call, and it could mean a significant problem re applications or merit money, or decisions that a quick phone call might fix (again not an irate or demanding call) i wouldnt be afraid to call.

Glido, you were correct. There is such a thing as EA II. I do not have a list of schools that offer it. Perhaps someone has such a list, but EA II definitely exists.

>>>But do you really want to call and ask them to please give me a quick decision so I can do EA somewhere else? That is not exactly putting your best foot forward.<<<
That is NOT the question to ask. The question to ask is 'I applied SCEA and my packet says "quick decision" - I am wondering if you have a timeline since it has been 3 weeks and I would also like to confim that everything has been received".
Ask the admissions counselor - not secretary in admissions.

So SCEA is taking longer than the Tulane EA apps? I know of at least 3 students in our community who applied EA to Tulane within the last 3 weeks and have already received positive admissions decisions. It seems odd to me that they are taking longer with the SCEA applications. Clearly the SCEA applicants have expressed even more commitment to the school by eliminating for themselves the opportunity to apply to other schools EA. I think the OP's S could call and politely inquire whether the "quick turnaround" could be expected in the case of his SCEA application.

I'm still completely lost on why the OP's son decided to apply SCEA and then try to game the system rather than applying EA to a bunch of places...
