runnersmom: I think all arrows point to his being on the 50 yard line and the adcom waiting to take a look at all scea apps - he's definitely not a shoe in but also not a long shot.
k43n2: no point in being snarky - this a parents thread and you of course are welcome here but recognize that we are all just trying our best to be good parents and help our kids out.

Considering how long it's taken for Tulane to return your son's SCEA results and how long it has taken Tulane to return regular EA results, I wonder if their delay is specifically in place to prevent this sort of behavior. I suppose it might be worth calling to find out if this is the case.

Call 'em up. You have nothing to lose, and more understanding to gain. Tulane is looking at thousands of apps....they're not making little marks about whose mom calls up. They said one thing, and are doing another. You have every right to ask why.

I have no idea if this applies to Tulane, but in other cases when a school puts a file up for review, it does mean the applicant is on the fence and not an automatic admit.
| That was my thought--he's on the bubble. Maybe the answer would be to change the Tulane app to RD and move one of your other schools into the EA spot.

^^along the same lines as ellemenope, couldn't you change his app to regular EA and do the same; move the other apps to EA spots?
also, while I am thinking about it, is it possible that Tulane has decided that with SCEA there are only two options: accept or deny...? and if that's the case, maybe it would be preferable to change to EA or RD? just wondering.....

maybe we're splitting hairs here but would switching his app from SCEA to regular EA draw attention to the fact that he is considering other schools and thus work against him? He really loves Tulane and if SCEA is his chance to get in - that's what he wants to do. I wish I knew if it made a difference.

No idea, but I think since this is the first year of SCEA, it would definitely be a good idea to find out if he can even be deferred if you do not change it...otherwise, this bubble theory, if correct, could really turn out ugly....is your son close to his guidance counselor? maybe a discussion with him/her could clarify but I do think you or your son should try to get clarification on this tomorrow....either directly through your regional rep at Tulane or otherwise....
again, I repeat, I hate SCEA.....and this situation is making me hate it even more....
just wondering, and you can PM me if you do not want to post, but are you applying for FA?

Wait a minute--Tulane has regular EA AND SCEA? That's a new one on me. Is the only difference between regular EA and SCEA one in which SCEA is kind of like "rolling admissions EA"?
If Tulane is where he really wants to go then I'd just let things be. You'd hate to think that something you did to increase your chances elsewhere adversely affected your chances at your #1 choice school.

^^SCEA in addition to EA new this year....supposedly sends message to Tulane that they are your #1...as I said earlier, would have been easier to reinstate ED

post#34 is spot on. The "pending decison" usually means they aren't sure if its an admit or defer decision. Tulane is VERY BIG on demonstrated interest. YOur s should emai his adcomm (they are very responsive) or and/or go to the Tulane forum and contact Tulane Jeff (hes an admissions person) to talk up his interest and see what he can do to demonstrate stronger interest that will tip his application. Have you visited? Gone to local presentations? contacted his adcomm? IF an application is on the fence , showing strong interest (not, I repeat NOT complaining or nagging about the response time) could make the difference. Good luck

Visited NOLA, attended school presentation and local "reception", met and introduced himself to the local ADCOM rep and wrote a thank you for all of the above. He said to me this morning (in all his 17 year old wisdom) "Mom, don't worry about it I have a good feeling, I think I'll get in. I was meant to go there and I will."

Also sending good vibes. If your son is too shy to pick up the phone he could simply send an e-mail to his admissions rep and ask if there is anything else he could contribute/send that would support his desire to attend Tulane. The answer is probably "no", but it reinforces his ED, "this is my first choice" application.

Well, your thread prompted me to call because it shows ds is still missing test scores. It's taking CB a long time! Anyway, I just wanted to make sure his "priority app" -- submitted a week before the deadline -- wouldn't be discounted because of the late scores.
Warning: I intended to be totally anonymous even though this isn't ds's 1st or even 5th choice. They can see your phone number, and she mentioned our hometown. Eeek! I wasn't quick enough on my feet to get out of it when she asked my son's name. Argh. But she was able to actually look at his file and see it was all there except for that. My advice is continue to resist your urge to call!!!! Lesson learned.
