What kind of things should I tell colleges about once I've applied?

I found out today that I've been selected as a Legislative Page for the 2010 MD General Assembly. I've already applied to U of Chicago and UMD. Should I contact them and tell them about this? I think we "serve" as Pages for only 2 non-consecutive weeks, so I dunno if it's impressive enough.

IMO - Any accomplishment that you are proud of and that showcases you'll full personality IS worth reporting. Some larger schools, like UMD, may never look beyond the GPA/SAT in sorting your acceptance, but you should let it be the decision of the AdCom.

Look at it this way -- if the selection came thru prior to you submitting the apps would you have reported it? If yes, then you should report it.

Thanks!

I'll just leave it out then. I mean, I don't have any place left in the "Awards" section and it will probably look pretty unimpressive as an Extra Curricular (I mean, it's just 2 weeks...).

It's sounds impressive to me, even if it is "only" two weeks. If you can't find a place on the application to put it - and nearly all of them have a "is there anything else you'd like to tell us" secition - I'd add a resume with it. If you have shown any interest in majoring in something related to politics or policy this will add to the picture of who you are. ECs are not just about quantity they are about quality and this sounds like something unusual and an honor as well.

This is impressive, and an honor. Especially if this activity is aligned with your academic and career goals, you should include it in some way. I think it shows your commitment to leadership.

For Academic Interests I put Economics and then Political Science. I mean a lot of my ECs are political so I guess this would just reinforce that idea. Thanks! I already have some stuff in the Additional Info section, but I just thought of a way to incorporate this into that
