Holidays....

I'm an international student, and will be attending Univeristy next year. I won't be returning home during the year so I was wondering during the holidays do parents mind having an international student stay with them?

It appears that many students are invited to someone's house, and many stay in dorms. This is also true for students who live a distance away.

Many colleges have a host family program. Local families who participate in these programs take care of individual students over school holidays ranging from Thanksgiving to longer holidays. They do so as a form of cultural exchange. Often, however, international students get invited by their college friends. If dorms are open, some may elect to stay in the dorm to get homework done. I'm sure you will be well taken care of.

My daughter and her friend are driving from their college in Illinois to Pennsylvania with two of their friends, one from England and one from India. I think the friends will be visiting college friends around the country (they have several weeks off) during the break. My daughters friend has a roommate from Japan and he does have a host family in the nearby town and I think he will be staying with them for part of the Christmas break. He's coming home with daughters friend (his roommate) for Thanksgiving. hmmm, looks like I need another word for friend.....

Speaking only for myself, I will be delighted to have my son bring home a friend from another country--or one who needs a place to stay from this country, for that matter--for the holidays next year. As long as I get to see him myself!

I agree with ctymom. If my daughter likes someone well enough to bring them home, then they would be welcome.

Same with our family. If my son brought someone home, they would be welcome and we have a empty house now so there is a lot of space. They just have to get used to my very unenthusiastic cooking. Well, we could always eat out.

Guess it's how you approach it. I would ask friends first if they mind having you.If there are none (unlikely) then investigate the resources available on campus.Thirdly, look into a local church you are attending in town, or another religous organization or ethnic organization with which you may be involved.I don't think you will have too much trouble finding a friendly family.Just start looking soon.

Thanks, I visited the Univeristy in the summer and stayed with a host family then, and they offered me somehwhere to stay in the holidays, I was just wondering if they said that because they thought they had to or they really don't mind.
