Colleges for the Jewish "B" student

As some of you know - I am an interloper but I feel a part of your "family"!! So far, S2 has been accepted to University of Georgia and Tulane. Still have quite a few applications out there (some are EAs) but the big ED decision will determine the course of action.

Can anyone tell me something about Denison?

My son was invited up by the coach and I have NEVER even heard of the school!

Could be moot, come Tuesday, but one never knows...

Orangemom, yes. See if you can PM Erin'sDad on cc. I believe that he has a daughter there unless she graduated recently.

We visited and my son was accepted. He ended up not attending though. I think it is just a beautiful campus. For my son this was a reach school, and even though he did get some merit aid, it was not enough for us to make it work. BTW, they are supposed to be quite generous with aid, but for us the aid was not great because my son's stats were on the lower end for this school.

Denison had been on my radar for a while, but I couldn't get S interested in Ohio schools.
I saw on another thread about Druggiest Schools, and Denison is on that.

I looked at Denison when I was considering adding Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster as a school where S might get merit $. With the acceptances he's gotten so far, we're not considering it anymore. I think it has a pretty rep for academics, though.

Denison University is a private institution that was founded in 1831. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 2,275, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 850 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Denison University's ranking in the 2012 edition of Best Colleges is National Liberal Arts Colleges, 49. Its tuition and fees are $40,210 (2011-12).

Denison University, a small liberal arts college, is set in the proportionally small town of Granville, Ohio. From campus, students can walk to the restaurants and shops that line Granville’s main street. Bikers may enjoy the 36-mile trail that connects Granville to the nearby Ohio cities of Newark, Johnstown, and Alexandria. The state capital, Columbus, is about 25 miles away, and students can get there in the free Big Red Express shuttles, which run three days a week. All students must live on campus, unless they are married, have children, are over the age of 25, or commute from a nearby parent’s home. Freshmen will only live with other first-year students. 911C2S, I saw that article, but I found it strange that there quite a few OH schools that made the list. I know that some posters commented about the criteria for the list (not sure about all of the criteria was besides another College site that also puts out individual small books about colleges. The initials of that company are C. P.).

Hi from class of 2015 land.......congrats to all again!! How great is it that we can actually have a list!

Anyway, Denison was a school recommended to my daughter when she was meeting with her school's guidance counselor......very strong LAC but like others, Ohio was not on our radar by that point......have heard wonderful things about it though.....

Thanks, everyone. I thought DS was done with LAC's, but obviously the sports part of the equation is still strong. A former teammate is there. I know he's a great kid, but no rocket scientist, yet got serious $$.

NEMom: I agree that lists like this can always be suspect, (same thing can be said for any ranking) but since it had just been published, I figured it was worth putting out there for orangemom.

except, perhaps Dartmouth, but that's due to a wknd I still don't recall 25 years later...but I digress

Winter Carnival, 1985

Picked up by friend in a MG convertible (10 degrees). Went to a bar to wait for other friends. Great place to doctor up Bloody Marys. Met a nice professor...Blank till following night..party at Hitler Youth Fraternity. Left. Spotted the Shoe Tree (a tree with sneakers hanging from it) got to dorm. Blank....

There was bowling somewhere.
